    I just found a suggestion that says the "lip of the seal should be facing the outside" in an online manual. I've always thought that with an oil seal of any type the lip would face the contained oil, but maybe its the other way around

    Just to make sure I'm clear, the impeller isn't sitting it the middle of the waterpump. As it spins, one side is closer to the side walls. Is this what you are saying? I guess my assumption was that the impeller would have the fins equidistant against the walls of the water pump

    I rebuilt the transom myself, and it has held up well to this point. No stress cracks or anything to indicate any compromising of it. I relocated the batteries to the cuddy, got rid of the side saddle aluminum tanks and put my tank behind rear seats. I will look into the Suzuki.
