    any penetration into the transom wood from the inside or outside can leak water into the wood. typical places: garboard plug thru-hull fittings screws pitot tube mounting screws wet foam (wicking from other places)

    Chris, should be center bolts (starting in 1987) however motor could be a 1986 (perimeter and 2-piece RMS). hope it isnt a left over '85 (perimeter, 1-piece RMS)

    I use an $11 laser tach. on my 3rd one as the other two got hit by belts / flywheel teeth. however any excuse to buy new tools is always a good excuse

    you could bump the base timing up to about 10 However verify your tach first. if your numbers are right, your at 7% prop slip which is fantastic However I am betting your tach is off a bit and you are at 4400

    you can get about 270-280hp at the crank (250-260 prop) out of a 305 vortec with a 4 barrel. for TBI, about 230hp at the crank (210 prop) you need MPI to get 250-260 prop Agree with AD, leave as is. most you can bore an SBC is .06 (with sonic checking the walls)
