    yes, get both a base to manifold gasket and a top gasket pull the carb off, put it on the bench (in a catch basin). pull it apart and remove the fish and other flotsam

    they are just vortec small block cores. same as any salvage yard has in a truck as core motors, $100-$200 depending on location, as scrap value, $50-$100 as a good long-block about $500 check to see what LKQ in your area gets for long blocks the value is in the marine bolt-on bits.

    first, welcome aboard second, post pics of what you have. doubt you need a new drive third, get the factory service manual for your motor and drive, get the alignment tool, gimbal tool and bellows tools. since the transom is shot, you have lots of time to work on the drive in between...
