Yam F300 vs. Merc Verado 350 vs. 383 MPI

Both I/O and outboards are prop rated after 1983 You really need to look at torque curves and prop curves. Also, you need to understand the force load path. Modifying an I/O hull for outboard use is a significant engineering undertaking

Rebuilt Mercruiser 140/3.0 doesn’t have enough power to plane

there should not be gas in that hose. maybe oil residue, however never gas.

Yam F300 vs. Merc Verado 350 vs. 383 MPI

the amount of work and cost to make your boat structurally sound for an outboard would automatically disqualify the outboard. I would just get a 377 long block and swap over for your existing 350 long block and be back on the water in a weekend and only out $4200

Buy a boat with a bad starter?

the chances that a 32 year old low end boat only needing a starter are slim to none. The motor may or may not be salvageable as indicated the comment above. Additionally, most likely there is some structural issue to the hull as well. we are just trying to indicate that a 32 year old boat is...

Rebuilt Mercruiser 140/3.0 doesn’t have enough power to plane

it it the clear tube coming from the fuel pump? if so, your fuel pump ruptured. that line is to direct fuel from a bad fuel pump to the motor so it runs bad, then you fix it vs having fuel enter the bilge and blow up

    Anybody have this happen?

the lube levels most likely have dropped, leading to a bearing failure, hence the bust-out of the top cover. you do check lube levels often, correct? you do pull the drive every year, or at least the upper gear box to inspect the u-joints, correct? right now, there are a bunch of upper gear...

Possible blown head gasket? Need Help!

Pull the manifolds, most likely leaking water down the cylinders and rusted the valves

    Anybody have this happen?

Lack of maintenance You will most likely neet a complete transmission, maybe a whole outdrive. You will have to pull the drive apart to see the extent of the damage

    Engine Identification?

Asside from the obviousness that the motor was left neglected outside to the elements for years, making it no longer useful as a parts motor There is a big corrosion hole in the leg, a decade of moss and mildew, the coils are cracked. Not sure what you see as value. None of us have a dog in...

    Engine Identification?

my guess is your "friend" currently is upset with you its worth $0.10 per pound as mixed metals scrap after you remove the lubricants, hoses, etc. (and have more than a ton) if you break the motor down to cast iron, steel and aluminum bits, the aluminum is worth $0.53 per pound, steel is $178...

    Starting issue

its almost never the coil only about 3 out a a million changed coils are actually bad. people replace the coils because they think its the problem without doing actual troubleshooting. the issue is one of the following things: a corroded wire. Solution here is to clean all corrosion. or...

    Rebuilding pontoon into a tri-toon

remember, you have a displacement hull. plenty of pontoon threads on here where someone pulls a 50hp off to install a 90hp and the speed is the same, however the fuel consumption and noise are increased. if you are planning on getting the pontoon to go up to 40mph, it probably wont.

    Acceleration problem

most likely the carb is dirty and needs to be pulled apart its not the neutral safety switch, that only disables the starter. the shift interrupt switch only comes into play when coming back to neutral your issue is fuel system related.

Help. Can’t find this neutral throttle button

you also need the rubber bit over the button.

    Rebuilding pontoon into a tri-toon

here is some light reading. https://www.pontooners.com/maximum-horsepower-pontoon-boat/ keep in mind, unless properly designed, you may not be any faster with 200hp than you would be with 50hp on a pontoon. you need to get a displacement hull up on plane. that means lifting strakes, etc.
