    MCM 7.4 oil

of course not but no reason to get jerked around unnecessarily and pay 2x. I have used rotella, QS 25-40 , the merc racing 20-50 and settled on mobil 1 15-50. It seems to hold hot oil pressure on long higher rpm runs better than the rotella or QS25-40. Its half the cost of the Merc 20-50. I...

    MCM 7.4 oil

If you google it it comes out around 800 which is generally considered too low for flat tapped cams. You could add a zddp additive. this is why the rotella T4 is reccomended. A lot of guys on the classic car forums I’m on use it as well For same reason. yours would have e been speced with...

    Stuck oil filter

Grab the metal flap with a vice grip clamped as tight as you can get it. Use BFH to hit vice grips in counter clockwise manner. Or use drift or punch to drive the holes in the filter housing CCW

    Alpha1Gen2 gear oil leak

if I recall correctly you will need to pull the vertical shaft and gear out and the race for the bearing above the seal to change it. If you dont have it get Mercruiser manual 14 will have all the correct sequnce to do the repair. You might as well do your input shaft seal while you are in there.

    Alpha1Gen2 gear oil leak

you wouldn't see it in the third pic as I think you are just looking at the front side of the bellhousing. If the lower seal in the upper was leaking you'd see it in the exhaust cavity and on the water pump. at this point you need to pull the drive and pressure test. When you did the shift...

    Mercruiser 4.3L wire harness

willing to bet that goes to mercathode or something on the transom housing - what does it connect to inside the boat? As mentioned serial numbers would help. googling mercuiser transom harness a listing like this comes up with some description below...

Bellows Replacement Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 1

A clymers is not worth $60 get the factory merc manual. yes the process is slightly different as Gen 2 driveshaft bellows attach somewhat differently with the internal ring vs clamp.

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

To do the seal you have to remove the outer race of the bearing above it. There is a rolling torque for the vertical gear and driveshaft. It is changed by changing shims Behind the bearing races. Theroretically if it all goes back in the same with same shims it should be ok. Unfortunately on a...

Mercruiser 5 L mpi cooling system

its not ideal as they put them there for a reason, but have had no issues with a boat where when I changed them it was obvious they had been not working for years.

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

Agreed best bet is to use what matches your serial number or contact merc tech support if you want to try the double lip seal. I would think if you could use either style interchangeably they would just include one seal in the kit not both. to the OP- do you have manual 14? If you take care...

Alpha one gen 2 - retaining ring/sleeve came out

get manual 14 for the drive will have a lot of info in there like where to use bellows adhesive etc. Unlike some OEMs, the merc manuals if you are reasonably handy have all the technical details and procedures to perform any needed repairs. Well worth the cost. I got mine used off ebay for less...

Alpha one gen 2 - retaining ring/sleeve came out

on a gen 2 I dont think there is glue on that side of bellows. you can just put a new retaining ring in, but I would check the bellows condition closely before doing so. If they are OEM bellows they should still be in good shape. While this is fresh water my factory bellows were still water...

    Mercruiser motor swap

yes I'm a big guy and the boat could pull me up on two skiis just fine. This was with a 16" pitch 4 blade Michigan Vortex. Ran a 18" 4 blade for non skiing use. Also was so easy to get at the spark plugs and two drain plugs. Not sure how many hours you put on yours a season- on a northern lake...

yes I had a 3.0 in a 17-18 ft bowrider. Wasnt really adequate there either, but I do miss putting $50 of gas in going all weekend and still having a qtr tank.

    Mercruiser motor swap

there used to be engine install drawings on the merc site with dimensions for where the motor mounts go off the X dimension (crank/ outdrive driveshaft center line). that's where I got the 4.5" from

    Mercruiser motor swap

I did a similar swap back in 2015-16 on a 2004 sea ray 200 sport (20-21 ft) that turned out very well. I bought it with a known cracked 4.3/190 hp carbed engine. The boat was also offered with 4.3 MPI 220 hp, 5.0 carb /220 hp, 5.0 mpi 260 hp options. I went back in with a 5.0 figuring if it...

why is there oil in my bellows but pressure test holds 15psi overnight

yes by 2009 they were sealed on new ones. My 2003 was still greased I think 2008 ish was cut over. Would entirely depend on when the power pack was manufactured instead of boat year. My engine was built in june 2003 , installed in 2004 boat
