    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Well..... I washed the other side down with wax and grease remover. Same fish eye. Would too old of Duratec do this? My sealed can was 2.5 years old. I ordered a new air line just to be on the safe side.....never used this line for painting before.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

I have my air dryer on. It has water, oil and particulate filters, then after the regulator I have more filters. I think I should have used my Proform wax and grease remover. Or I very likely missed some spots.

Shot a test side. I wiped the sides down with acetone, yet I still got fish eye. Will sand and re wipe with wax and grease remover.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Ok, Thanks Scott. I am jumping the gun a bit, but I will shoot the Cobalt blue gel I have on hand today. I will gelcoat the sides for a test to see if I like it.

To catalyze the Duratec and gelcoat, do I add MEKP for the volume of the gel only or the entire volume? I just went to the Duratec site. I downloaded the instructions. Google is my friend.....lol

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Ok, thanks. That would be 1k for 904 alone. Time to decide whether to do top cap and bottom of boat with gel/904 and sides with single stage.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Yes, I priced Imron before. The 904 would only go in the last coat? If so, I might get away with 1 gallon of 904....that would make the 5gallon of white gel with it 700.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Thanks, the 5 gallon pail of gelcoat is expensive. I think the top cap will get gelcoat along with the bottom of the boat. I figure 2 gallons would be enough.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Just out of curiosity, does humidity take the gloss sheen out of the gelcoat with Duratec in it? I know with auto paint it will.

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Thanks lads. I have a gallon of Duratec. I think some testing with white gelcoat is in order after my interior work. My idea is to spray the entire boat white. Add some graphic decals on the sides of the hull. Now I am torn with spraying the sides a metallic blue, which I have a gallon of...

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Thanks, I have sprayed cars before, the single stage would be easier as I do not have a paint booth. Why avoid the tie downs? Would you suggest a primer for the single stage?

    Changing colour of gelcoat question

Do I need a gecoat primer if I go all white gelcoat over my coloured hull? I was thinking to make the boat all white with a graphics decal to add some colour and style.

Well , back at the boat again. Started re attaching my bow seats. I fibre glassed the the 2 halves first , then installed the seat bench with pressure treated 3/4 ply and stainless steel screws. Now grinding and glassing it in.
