    Valve Lubricant

1996 MerCruiser 4.3 LX Gen+ Operation & Maintenance Manual # 90-807795962. On page 51 it states: "To maximize the life of valves and valve seats on your MerCruiser engine, use Quicksilver Valve Lubricant (92-90131A12) regularly." It appears this P/N has been superseded by P/N-826259A12, but that...

    Question About Speedi-Sleeve Installation

Update: I found that a 2" PVC Coupler has an inside diameter of 2-3/8". That worked perfectly as an install tool for tapping the Speedi Sleeve on. And it only cost $1.56 at Home Depot... :) A new question regarding this same topic: Do you guys normally try to remove the tearaway installation...

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

Engine is a 1996 Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen+. Outdrive is an Alpha One Gen 2 (S/N: 0F709127). I am currently replacing all the seals in the upper half of the outdrive. So the "drive gear assembly" and the "driven gear assembly" have now both been removed. I did not remove any shims or bearing cups...

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

The outdrive serial number is 0F709127. Along with the driveshaft seals, I plan to replace the yoke seal. So won't I need to reset the rolling torque after that.? .

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

I do have Service Manual #14 and I am following the procedure there. And I am replacing the yoke seal as well, so I will need to reset the rolling torque. I thought I had read that the double seal design change did not change the seal cavity. Which would mean that either seal configuration...

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

Hey, thank you for the reply to my question. The seal I'm referring to is actually #5 in this assembly drawing: https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassemblydetail/46516838/28171024 Our outdrive is slightly older than that (serial number 0F709127). So ours came with a pair of seals in that...

Alpha One Gen 2 Shaft Seal Choice

My effort to recondition our Alpha One outdrive continues. One of the kits I purchased is Sierra seal kit P/N-18-2644. It came with both types of double seals for the driveshaft. One is a pair of seals, and one is the combined double seal. (the seals I removed were the two separate opposed...

    Question About Speedi-Sleeve Installation

I have a buddy who replaced his kitchen dishwasher. The old one still worked fine, so he installed it in his shop. It works great for cleaning all kinds of stuff. .

    Question About Speedi-Sleeve Installation

That does make sense... So with this method, you don't need anything to drive it on.? It seems like I will still need some way to carefully tap it on... .

    Question About Speedi-Sleeve Installation

So with this method, you don't need to drive it on at all.? The video I saw from SKF said not to heat the sleeve. They were concerned about it warping since it's so thin. I do really like the idea of freezing the yoke hub though. In my case, I'll need to freeze the entire universal joint. Wife...

    Question About Speedi-Sleeve Installation

I am currently resealing our Alpha One Gen 2 outdrive. And I have ordered a Speedi-Sleeve for the yoke shaft surface. Looking ahead, I am wondering how this sleeve gets installed. It comes with an installation tool for driving the sleeve on. But the protruding shaft spline will be in the way of...

    Alpha Gen2 vs Alpha Gen+

This may have been previously discussed but I can't get the search to work... We have a 1997 Sea Ray 175XL BR and it has a 4.3LX Gen+ engine & outdrive. I am currently resealing the entire outdrive and replacing bellows, gimbal, etc. I think Gen+ refers mainly to the engine. Is the Gen+...

Need Recommendation for Alpha Outdrive Reseal

The unit is an Alpha Gen 2. I agree I have the capabilities to do it, but I'm currently buried with projects, and now with the setback to my hand, was just hoping to farm out the task. The drive is removed and easy to take somewhere. I was planning to do gimbal bearing and bellows, just to...

Need Recommendation for Alpha Outdrive Reseal

We have a little 175 SeaRay with a Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen+. The Alpha outdrive is off and I was planning to rebuild it, but an unfortunate recent hand injury currently has me one handed. So I'm looking to drop it off with someone and pay to have that done. The lower section does pass vacuum &...

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

Update: I drained out all the gear lube. It was clean and fresh (dark blue/green color) with no sign of water until the very end. So I think there was a small amount of water in the upper section. The outdrive does not hold pressure or vacuum, but the lower section, when tested by itself, does...
