    Gel coat vs Epoxy paint

Hello all, I am going to tackle the bottom hull this spring and paint or gel coat it. My boat will sit on the trailer most of the time. I will repair the hull scrapes and gouges from days gone past. I was going to order a 5 gallon pail of white spray gel coat but then saw the Interlux epoxy...

push rod length 5.7L roller cam

I realize there are lots of variables to weigh in for comments. I had a hard time seeing the marks on the valve ends that I coated with a black sharpie. They looked to be in the center of the stem. I checked the valve to piston clearance with modeling clay . I did not have the original push...

push rod length 5.7L roller cam

Well I went with the Vortec heads as suggested. They are Jegs cast iron. Now I checked my piston to valve clearance along with the push rod length with my adjustable push rod. Now I had Moroso valve checking springs in with my hydraulic roller lifters. I was going with 7.205 push rods. Deck...

Just a final check on outdrive choice

Ok thanks guys,........Paint chips do not bother me. The rebuilt drives , OEM's cost the same as a new SEI. A new alpha 1 gen 2 is 7k so the dealer said. I will look at an SEI. Every thing is tripiling in price these days. Or at least in the great north. Carlos

Just a final check on outdrive choice

Ok , i am ready for my out drive. I have an Alpha 1 gen 2 gimbal . 1991 era. It has been suggested before that I go with a 1.64:1 mated to my 5.7l. I can get a 1.81:1 for an excellent price. Would I be sacrificing anything other than a few mph on the top end? Thanks, Carlos

Intake port cc question for 5.7l sbc

Thanks, I am flip flopping between the Summit and the Jegs vortec heads right now. My machine shop can get me a set of Dart , but they are double the money. I was just looking for the best bang for the dollar. But as pointed out earlier....I am making this more complicated then necessary .

Intake port cc question for 5.7l sbc

Thanks all. I don't want to run more than 5000 rpm . I am looking for max torque. My deck clearance is .017 ,with 64cc heads I was just concerned about being at 9.8:1 on the less than stellar marine gas. For the cost up here in the great North , especially with Covid pricing and availability ...

Intake port cc question for 5.7l sbc

Ok going forward......165-170cc intake runner is said to be fine for a stock 355cid with my marine cam according to Dart. This will breath much better than the stock heads. Carlos

Intake port cc question for 5.7l sbc

I was all set.....Ordered a set of Jegs vortec heads and intake. Then the might as well hit. I cancelled the order. I am now wanting to get a set of Dart Iron Eagle heads. They offer a 165cc intake port and 72cc combustion chamber. This would put me at 9.68:1. This is where I get confused , or...

    5.7l carburetor choices

Well....I researched the Rochester carbs. They are quite impressive that they come 750cfm and 800cfm , Just the tuning is different for different applications. Long story short....I flip flopped the idea back and forth between the 1409 and rebuilding my Quadrajet. I ended up ordering a custom...

    5.7l carburetor choices

Ok , I ordered JEG vortec heads 514080 and aluminum intake 513002 for my 355 build. Block is a 92 5.7l marine cam 14097395 . The cfm flow for my motor is 436cfm according to the calculator. That seems a little low. I have seen the 1409 by Edelbrock recommended . What Holly would be good ? My...

I gathered that. I just did not think about the rpm and torque curves. But I will stick with stock replacements. Thanks, Carlos

    Compression ratio 5.7l

Ahh ok , I did not realize there was a difference in heads between the marine and hot rod . I think i will just go with the 906 / 602 castings from rock auto then. The 151124 head from Summit is what I was considering. Rock Auto has the Engine Quest heads re bagged as Engine Tech.
