1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

I have not removed the drive yet. I'm going to get a new battery and see if anything changes. I did change out the positive battery cable to the starter no change. So now I have a brand new ground cable, a brand new power cable, And I have the battery connected directly to the starter I took...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

I did run voltage test. Here's what I found this is with each independent battery hooked directly to the starter no battery switch. Batt 1: 12.4 volts at starter and battery when off, 9.5- 11 v At the battery when cranking, and 9.1 -9.5v at the starter. Batt 2: 12.2 volts at starter and...

I don't really know how to do that.. do you mean by turning the bottom pulley with a socket? There is a 16 mm bolt on that pulley that I can't turn with a 3/8 ratchet. Should it turn easily with that? It feels like the bolt is tightening , I don't want to turn it too much and snap the bolt...

Yes I have checked the oil before I even took it out. I didn't change it this year because I just changed it last year and only had it out about three times and it looked good still. So I just checked the level, It was fine. Also the plugs are already out of it. I have even bypassed the dual...

Is there any way to test the starter besides bench testing it? It appears fine on the bench, both of the starters did, But the voltage at the power terminal of the starter does drop to 9.5 volts when it's cranking. I've tested at the slave solenoid and the terminal. The starter is not easy to...

Made fresh new battery ground cables and have them grounded to the block.. still cranking slow. I took the batteries to O'Reilly to have it load tested. Both of them tested good. I then put each one in my truck fires as my truck up just fine. At this point the only thing I can think is maybe...

I ended up buying two gauge wires. I'm going to replace the starter wires and tomorrow I'm going to get two brand new batteries. But yeah all of my cables appear to be 6 gauge wires. one coming from my battery switch, is marked as 6 gauge wires, the other ones that I don't see any markings...

Okay guys, I have some 4 gauge power wire from an old amp kit, can I use that to make cables for this just to test it to see if it helps. It is 4 gauge but it's that really fine copper not the hard stiff ones. Currently my battery setup is with 6 gauge wire I just don't want to put a ton of...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Okay now I feel dumb. I cut open the wire loom that runs along the stringers. The battery is grounded to the flywheel housing. Then another cable attaches to the battery which connects to the other batteru. That battery cable is the one that was melted and really bad shape. So I think what...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

But yeah the starter grounds through the mounting bolts to the block right? So the batteries have to be grounded in some way, I wonder if it's one of those smaller wires on the grounding strap comes off of that into that wire loom along the stringers and then onto the battery Because now that I...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yeah I think my next step is to remove the house battery completely out of the equation , then hook my f starting battery directly to the starter with a fresh positive cable and a fresh ground that's actually grounded to the engine. And see if my cranking returns to normal. If it doesn't that...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but my ground wire attaches from my bank 1 battery goes around the engine goes to some kind of terminal coupler directly behind the engine (But just floating it's not attached to the engine, it was attached to the firewall behind it) , then that wire goes to a...

This is my 16th year with the boat And I've never messed with the wiring , So it's been like this ever since I've owned the boat, I just figured I should redo all my battery cables to try to eliminate that as the problem. And that's when I found they just connect to each other. Also when I crank...

1997 5.7L thunderbolt ignition. Slow crank

Oh also the ground wire that loops behind the engine, it appears they are joined with some sort of battery terminal in the Middle with a bolt through it or something I can't really tell because the insulation melted to it. I think it's two eyelets ends of each cable being adjoined with a...

Hi guys Okay I've done a lot of research on the internet and iboat, and I'm stumped still. Hoping someone could steer me in the right direction with my individual problem. Took the boat out of storage from winter, everything fired up just fine, Strong crank and fired with minimal effort. went...

    Stumped. No spark.

It did explain ! I didn't realize that those 2 Gray wires were part of the system, somebody told me those go to the tach and the lanyard safety switch and to just remove them and see if it will start. I put those wires back on and it fires up

    Stumped. No spark.

OK thanks I'm going to read through this tonight. I put a new distributor cap, rotor and Ignition sensor in , still no spark. I noticed that 50 amp red button doesn't really click like a button like it's stuck. Should that click? If I connect the 2 terminals will that bypass it? Maybe that has...

    Stumped. No spark.

I got it off thank you. The sensor contact was rusted and corroded, The inside of the button also had rust on it. I tried hitting everything with sandpaper Is to clean the surfaces, thinking I might at least figure out that that is the problem so I can order new parts. But it's still didn't...
