Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Was just out looking at it and what do you think about bolting a chain to the the transom using the motor mount holes. I could create a loop with the chain for the hoist to lift. The transom is in OK shape I'm still planning on replacing it during the restoration but thought this might be an...

Bunk spacing for a 70's StarCraft SS

I'm switching my trailer and am converting my old load Rite roller trailer to bunks to replace the original trailer that came with my StarCraft 16 foot ss 1973. I've read a lot of conflicting opinions on how far apart to space the bunks on the hull. I figured you guys can set me on the right...

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Thanks, I have gotten some wide towing straps to use as a cradle and will use a spreader bar so its not compressing the sides. I'll be happy when this trailer swap is done.

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Thx Mc, I was thinking of building a crib to rest the back of the boat on under the transom then using my crain to lift the bow allowing me to swap trailers. Ive seen some youtube videos where they lift it from the front bow eye but not convinced I think i might use a sling under the bow. Any...

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Thanks for all the quick replies, its given me some options. Im far away from any launches so garage is the only option I have. Makes sense to support the back, I will have to get some old tires if I go that route but its probably better and probably safer than just suspending it. Will be really...

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Hey Everyone, Have a question I would love some feedback on. I want to lift my 16 foot Starcraft boat (motor off) that weighs about 6 to 700 pounds. I built a diy gantry crain that took the motor off no problem. Now I need to switch trailers and am thinking I can lift the back of the boat with...

    1973 StarCraft SS 16 Restore

Work continues, last year I built an engine stand and a crain out of 2x4's and finally got the motor off today. The diy crain worked perfectly and me and my two sons got the Johnson 70 onto our motor stand without issue. Ended up taking out the front helm to get the steering cable off the motor...

Hey Guys, I have a 1988 Johnson 70HP VRO on the back of a 1973 StarCraft I'm restoring and am gutting it now. I am ready to remove the motor and have everything disconnected but the the control box cables. Looking for advice on if I have to mark them somehow or do anything special when I...

    1973 StarCraft SS 16 Restore

Got more of the floor out today. Got the controls and all the old wiring out so the motor can come off. Didnt find any more strange cuts in the ribs on the other side either. Still a bit worried about the other ones and if I should get them welded. Also had a question about the two stringers...

    1973 StarCraft SS 16 Restore

I came across these cuts in the ribs after removing the floor. It looks like someone has cut the rib ends. Originally I thought it might have been a previous owner cutting out an old floor but they are cut both ways like a cross so I dont get what they were doing. I havent opened up the other...

    1973 StarCraft SS 16 Restore

I have built a stand and am planning on taking the motor off. Should I do that before I continue removing the consoles? I read somewhere that without the floor the structure will be affected and it made me second guess leaving the motor on and continue gutting the inside. Thanks

1988 Johnson 70hp - VRO or not to VRO?

I felt like I was leaning this way initially and was the reason I asked on this forum. Looks like the VRO debate has no clear answer and its really just a personal choice type thing.
