    salt water in single cylinder

water breached a cylinder apparently from riser gasket. It was only there about 12 hours before I cleaned it out. other cylinders on starboard looked fine. I vacuumed out water and attempted to dry with q-tips :-) and a torch but concerned with potential rust on valves. Going to do compression...

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

I replaced the engine temp sensor. I guess there is a different sensor for water temp. Likely needs replacing too, it measures 600+ ohms. I assume that one sends the temp signal to the gauge and the engine temp trips an alarm.

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

Thanks. I removed my risers 1 season old and replaced the gaskets with the one that has open ports on all sides. I recall doing my due diligence to determine which version was the proper one and had put the one with the small hole one side. We'll see. Pulling the thermo again to see how much...

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

So back to this thread for some updates. Having issue with the thermo again and the other day after returning home (without a temp reading all day) and flushing the engine, no water was coming out the exit ports rear of boat. Engine was still quite warm. Replaced temp sensor a couple days later...

Are you adjusting the jet or the idle set screw? Also, review the procedure for setting up your throttle cable too.

New Starter for 4.3l 3 post solenoid

Thanks, DB was the two starters I had that failed. The New one that I held onto for 10 years was garbage. Not sure what happened to it. The new cheapo with the db electric solenoid work though! You can see the teeth on the front of the plastic housing look full but that is only for the first .25...

New Starter for 4.3l 3 post solenoid

So I found the new rebuilt was no good. There is a plastic gear that is driven by 3 little metal gears which are turned by the shaft off the coil motor. The plastic gears were gone. I assume that is what happened to the previous starter too. I also don't see any special shielding that dictates a...

New Starter for 4.3l 3 post solenoid

great... so much for snap decisions. Any idea why a new starter, well even the old would start to not engage and rotate the engine?

New Starter for 4.3l 3 post solenoid

I am having issues with the previous starter and the new 10yo starter from the same company and it appears the starter is not engaging the flywheel. If I rotated the engine and it occasionally catches and turns but lately nothing but a free spinning noise from the starter. I've inspected the...

    Quicksilver 3000 operation

Hello, and thanks to anyone who responds to this thread on a Memorial Day you absolutely rock. My 3000 shifter never quite worked well and I was not sure what the issue was but purchased new cables. Now as I have the control box open I am questioning maybe the clutch itself. Issue was that...

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

So an update on this saga. After opening new thermo housing again I noticed quite a bit of rusted metal chips in my manifold and cleaned it out. Did this a last year as well when I replaced the housing and stat. Also put in another thermostat from the automotive store. Problem seems to be solved...

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

Thanks. I did open thermo to verify placed correctly and it was a brand new housing and thermo. Update is I put in the ocean and test ran it with same issue for about 20 min. opened her up to about 3500 rpm for a about 10 min and the temp gauge finally started to move, engine eventually reached...

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

Just ran it with the muffs for about 10 in. Saw no water anywhere. engine temp did not break 115 and intake manifold was cold. top of risers were warm and area around the thermo housing. port exhaust water was splattering while starboard was more stream like. felt under the port Y pipe but did...

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

ok, yeah, I had a concern about one of those but they are located on each side of the block. I suppose I should see it with the muffs on too, no? would that be the reason the engine was cold ?? I can see an engine overheating but never getting warm, got me.

Cold engine despite running for a while. Water entering bilge

So, 4 years a carb rebuild new exh/risers, thermo and housing, trim units, gimbal bearing, bellows shift cable, sei drive etc... everything seemed like go in the driveway. at the launch, i noticed water in the bilge and saw a leak from one of the risers between the boot and Y pipe. nothing major...

    Hydraulic ram stuck on pin

Trying to remove the hydraulic rams and pin form my transom assembly and they won't free. WD-40'd and light hammering/prying, nothing. Seem to be fused with the plastic bushings and really don't want to snap the transom/gimbal assembly by hammering too hard. Can they be heated to melt the...
