1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

Good point racer.....where do you draw the line? One thing is for certain.....TITLE=FEES and TAXES.....no matter how well intended.

1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

I see your point now, Tex......it would make it harder for a thief to sell a stolen OB motor.....without a title.....but only if buyers refuse to buy motors without a title.....then it could have an impact on theft here in Texas. On the other hand, a thief could take his stolen OB over to...

1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

Hey Texas......first off I want to say that I totally support TPWD. I contribute to TPWFoundation and Gear Up for Game Wardens.....and buy Parks Passes every year and visit state parks frequently. I also have titles for my boats and OB motors (as required by law) and keep the registrations...

1979 mercury 20hp Texas title question

This is from the TPWD website: " Purchases or gifts of boats or outboard motors that do not acquire the title and signed bill of sale (or statement of gift) will not be eligible for immediate transfer. These may be titled through a more expensive and lengthy bonded title process requiring...

    Need torque for prop nut

Do you think that 55 ft-lbs would be good number for most props on 85HP and up engines? Can't find a torque spec for mine, anywhere.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Yeah, Franz aint cheap but it is pretty safe buying from him. Mastertech is good too but they didn't have anything. Bill Kelly has his business up for sale and Franz is trying to retire.....guess you could say I am doing my part to help Franz get rid of his inventory. Lol

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Nothing in the manual about gear ratios.....did as Nordin suggested....one full turn of the drive shaft moved the prop shaft 1/2 turn....so it seems to be a 2:1 gear ratio. Found a rebuilt LU with one year warranty from Franz's marine. B.O.A.T.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

"If you look for a replacement LU watch out cause there was both 20 in and 25 in LU." Nordin, are you talking about the length of the driveshaft? I haven't dropped the LU yet but plan to do so Wednesday. " I think there was three different ratios 1:73, 1:93 and 2:1." Is the ratio stamped on...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

I'm not sure either.....by just looking at some parts diagrams on marineengine.com......looks like the LU on 85HP 1977-1982 use the same gear case. As well as the 105, 115, and 120HP models in the 1978 year model. Am sure there are others that would work. May try to have my LU repaired...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Thanks.....appreciate the thought. Am in no hurry now that winter is here and the holidays are coming up. Do you know what year models would be compatible for LU swap? It is a one piece with single exhaust.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

This LU has never been torn apart....original owner....just regular fluid changes. I wish it was just a residue, but unfortunately this thing was making some serious metal. And the way it was acting on the lake, think I was lucky to make it back to the ramp.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Update......just about finished with the break-in on this rebuilt PH, ran it for 4 hours yesterday. Was running real good, then during the last 30 minutes it sounded different, like it was struggling to maintain rpm, and noticed a vibration. My first thought was the lower unit. Raised the...
