    Intermittent "cough" during startup.

It only "coughs" on the first start after sitting for a week or two....after that is fine. So, on next day outing no cough, only after it sits up for a while. Thanks Sea Rider for your input. (y)

    1972 55hp Chrysler Tachometer Install

Not an expert on tachometers but learned a lot when I had to replace the one on my boat. First thing you need to determine is how many "poles" your stator has. Try counting the lugs (poles) on your stator....this will tell you what kind of tach you need. You may be able to look up under the...

    Tackle boxes

The main reason I didn't buy the soft case gear was "water".....most are water resistant, not water proof. So if they get wet, which they will if you don't have dry storage on your boat, then you will have to thoroughly dry them out before putting away, or you can imagine the mold that would form.

    Intermittent "cough" during startup.

I googled it.....Lower Explosive Limit.....and Upper Explosive Limit......one would think gas would burn at all times, but not so. Interesting info. My engine "coughs" sometimes too, but only on the first start...after that, no problem.

Trailer needs attention on used flat bottom.

If you use the plastic bunk slicks that run the entire length of the board then no need for carpet. Have heard that some areas do not allow carpeted bunks in order to reduce the spread of invasive species, although not here in Texas. And without the carpet, your bunk boards dry quicker without...

    Starter brushes

Well it looks like my starter disassembly and cleaning, along with installing a new OEM NOS starter solenoid fixed the issue I was having. Before, when turning the key to start, sometimes nothing would happen, would have to turn the key off and on several times to activate the starter. This...

    Irnflatable PFDs revisited

Bought an Onyx A/M24 to replace my standard life vest recently.....gets real hot down here and the Onyx is so much cooler and light. Forget I have it on most of the time.

    Starter brushes

You are correct again! I meant that getting professional work done by a shop is almost nonexistent. This forum does a great job filling the void, and besides, I would rather do it myself anyway. (y)

    Starter brushes

"Is this the starter from your 78/85hp? It doesn't look like anything I've seen in the Chrysler/Forces???" Jerry.....mine is exactly the same as the one shown in the diagram for my model #.

    Starter brushes

Correct! Figured somebody would notice that. Lol. In the Chrysler Force FAQ sticky there is a thread about replacing the original rectifier with one of these voltage regulator/rectifier units if you were having high voltage problems. I was seeing 16.5 volts at idle and 18+ at higher rpms...

    Starter brushes

Appreciate your input dingbat.....very good advice. Took the starter off to check the positive terminal connection on the back, and to get to the main engine ground connection....much easier with the starter removed. Since I had it off, and it's 42 years old, might be a good time to have it...

    Starter brushes

Thanks Force power.....got it back together on the first try, used some tiny tie wraps to hold the brushes in, pushed the commutator through and the wraps came off by themselves. Did not use any sand paper, just wiped it off with a clean rag and used compressed air. Commutator was shiny...
