    Showing my Tri-axle Trailer some TLC . . .

Same, I tried to get that ridge of rust cleaned up on a couple of rotors and no one does it anymore! I actually have had very good luck with the zinc coated brake drums and backing plates I have on my old Load Rite. I'll post up a pic of them, currently have 5 seasons of use pretty much the...

    2005 Mercruiser 5.0L MPI (Bravo 3) - Question about changing Mainfolds/Elbows

I had good luck with Barr & would use them again. I’d use a thread chaser rather than a tap to clean all the threads including in your cylinder heads. The flatness of the sealing surfaces has to be checked with a straight edge & feeler gauges less than .003” variation.

    4.3 OMC Batwings

not off the top of my head but if you look on a volvo parts website you should be able to find it. I bought all new Volvo parts when I did it and it was fairly expensive but it all fit perfect and no leaks, so it was worth it to me. The Barr kit with manifolds, elbows, and hardware/gaskets is...

    4.3 OMC Batwings

They will fit, I did it 9 years ago on my 1988 4.3. However, if the manifolds are cracked, better check the engine itself and the intake manifold! Why would someone drain the engine and not drain the manifolds, doesn't make any sense! The Volvo down pipes are pretty pricey new, you can find...

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

Doesn’t make sense on the open plenum design of the GM marine intake. It looks as if it would really change the flow pattern for the primary bores.

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

I really think that thick 4 hole one is for vintage GM automotive intakes that used the 4 hole spread bore manifold. Doesn’t make sense on the open plenum design of the GM marine intake.

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

About the intake yes it is a Pre-Vortec engine (1988) 12 bolt intake, there is an Edelbrock intake that would have worked similar to that one but it won't fit with the OMC/Volvo high mounted alternator. So I am limited to the old style cast iron spread bore intakes. If I switch to the 1409 I...

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

Well there's something wrong with either it, or the fuel pump because it's been giving me fits this year. I finally put together all the fittings needed to measure fuel pump pressure and volume (it has the OEM steel line from the filter to the carb). I measured vacuum at the inlet side of the...

    1988 Quadrajet and gasket issues

Looking at their site in the parts section I can see that is true for the V8s, but for the V6 which is what I have the only option is the original GM style intake unless you go to an Edelbrock alu intake. I am still thinking of replacing the old Quadrajet with a brand new Edelbrock 1409 I have...

    Scissors-like abnormal noise from 5.7

the anti-siphon valve is screwed into the top of the fuel tank pick up tube, there is a spring loaded ball inside that will shut off fuel flow if the fuel line from the tank to the pump/filter leaks in the bilge. The ball can corrode or get stuck from crud getting caught in it. Be careful if you...

    Scissors-like abnormal noise from 5.7

If it's stalling at idle, it's best to rule out other causes before condemning a carb. Start with ignition, are the cap and rotor in good shape, these can cause problems due to age and corrosion Same with plug wires they can be checked for resistance Spark plugs, for wear and fouling Once your...
