    Exhaust Riser?

    Are you getting any overheating alarms? Do the risers feel hot to touch? If not, the stoppage in running is probably not related to the manifold/risers.

    I`d suggest you start by removing the thermostat housing and thoroughly cleaning out the internal passages. There are a few that can be hard to find if you do not know where to look.

    For what little they cost, I would probably try one of those $200 aftermarket pump assemblies to see if the whine persists. Worst case scenario is now you have a back up pump.

    No need to fear Volvo drives. I`ve had two and both were very well built and very durable. Obviously maintenance is a must on any drive.

    Engine Trolley Stand

    I purchased on of Stumpy`s stands after using a home made for years. The Stumpy`s is much nicer in that you can adjust the height of the stand much easier. If you plan on using it often. I suggest Stumpy`s.

    Drive destroyed

    Would like to know specifically more about the damage. Is the gearcase ruptured or just some bent props. Got a pic? Maybe you just need a new lower and not the entire drive.

    I would think with gas prices as they are that someone you know would gladly take it off your hands and maybe even supply the containers to offload it into.

    I run Rotella T6 synthetic in mine, but have used Mobil 1 when I cannot find Rotella. I agree with others, you are overthinking. Oils have improved vastly since your engine was designed.

    Pretty much what is said above. At a minimum, drain all the water out. A cheap time investment given the cost of a new motor.

    Purchase a drag link socket. Google it, it fits the grove perfectly and does not mar. It can also be adapted to an impact driver if a little force is needed.

    It`s kinda hard to tell from the picture but it looks like there is some sort of plug in there, perhaps broken off as I do not see a lot of threads visible. That is a manifold drain plug hole.     Volvo does not use a gasket in the area that you are referencing. The video you watched appears to be of a different drive. I just usually apply a good coating of marine grease between the two mating surfaces to keep them from seizing together making it more difficult to separate the next time.
