had decent weather last weekend mixed up some thickened epoxy and set the inside transom piece. Thanks to all for the tricks and tips. Been setting up all week.
1700 arrived yesterday. Hope to get at least on layer on it this weekend.
Nice on he hatch and side windows. looking good. something about fabricating stuff is so rewarding. I felt the same way when I did my side windows. All shiny and new. Then I realized I’m gonna have to wet sand compound and polish the hull at some point. Will you cover the windows when you do yours?

Last week did some testing with epoxy. Mixed up different batches with cabosil and made some test bonds with scrap wood. Learned quite a bit. Working time to thickening.

Okay… question regarding setting the transom in with the west system epoxy. This is for a small transom section on a 1990 Bayliner 2651. It’s not a the entire transom that’s being refitted. Just the middle section. Approx 24 “ x 27”. Here’s what being replaced.

Compounding the gelcoat…. Then waxing the gelcoat will help restore the boat. I think you’re talking about oxidation of your 30 year old boat. there are many posts on the forum relating the “how to“ on this process.
you could screw it to a straight board on one side… glass the opposite…once cured do the other side. Just a thought. Since you have a template you could just get new plywood… might me less time consuming.

was finally able to get some exterior grade plywood for the transom. seems the big box stores aren't carrying much stock these days. Also able to purchase some linear Doug fur for the motor mount stringers.

Good you’re gonna check …….There’s always hope BUT…been there done that… but ultimately I ended up replacing everything. better safe than sorry. Good luck….let us know your progress. The folks on this site are amazing helpful and very knowledgeable. I’ve learned a ton.
Have you taken core samples on your transom? 1/4” drill bit from the inside. check from the bottom to the top. Go in about half inch. Three samples (low middle and high near the keyhole) check what comes out. do the same on he motor mounts.
While the cylinders are apart you may want to consider rebuilding. Inexpensive and a great sense of security knowing they are rebuilt. Just my 2 cents… hope you find the issue. Good luck
Got it! It has 2 hoses so I assume I’m in luck. I’ll search on you tube under Corvette power steering actuator rebuild. Here’s what I’ve got( one hose already removed) sorry didn’t get a full pic. Thank you for the input
