    so i orderd a locating ring so i can set the coil properly, i did order a new driver coil, not saying it is bad, but it is original. so to elimanate issues before i go back and look at the carb again. ill change those parts and see if it improves. thank you all for the help. Dale

    That is how I originally set them up so they are sitting flush to the bosses . This is an original coil under the fly wheel, what are the chances it is the issue . Is there a way to tell ???? Thank you Dale

    There is only one coil under the flywheel . If that means anything . I was thinking of putting tape on the driver coil and seeing how much I can move it till it hits the wheel. Of course by turning it by hand ……

    I did think of that and made me wonder Hmmmmmmmm. The good thing is I never mounted the kicker bracket. After looking at weight and how high the transom was , I have made the choice, ONE MOTOR AT A TIME. I bought a boat not a sub. Thank you for catching that too. Dale Thank you……

    I can push the button to start with the throttle open, in neutral and it fires right up no hesitation. It’s when I turn it down some it gets funny. But I have to set the carb up to the motor first. Waiting on my next instructions Thank you all Dale

    Ok so here we go, I took the points off cleaned the top under flywheel. Put the points back on, put original ones back in, I did take sand paper to them like suggested. So back to all original.     so i looked up the coils that i had orderd they are the correct replacements, here is a picture of them. so i amasking how do i tell if the coil lamination under the flywheel is putting out enough charge, or does it just create the field ??? thanks again Dale

    I will be taking the carb apart again tomorrow and rebuild it again. I will stop spraying it with starting fluid. I just think I will go over thing one thing at a time and verify everything is done correctly. Here is the spark checker i purchased to see the spark. Thank you all Dale

    So I got one I can open the gap to 3/16 and have spark. So I sprayed starting fluid into the carb , then closed the choke and gave it a try . It did not run. I did do the spark check on both coils . So to elimate fuel as a problem if I sorry starting fluid in the carb it should at least I think...

    I can’t say yes definitely . I will go to the auto store and purchase a spark tester. The one that you can screw in and out to see how big it can jump
