1996 15 HP mercury with spark on only one plug

why would it be sparking on one plug and not the other. there are no magnets passing by the trigger that I can see or detect. I would think it would need 2 magnets 180 deg apart positioned in opposite N S poles to give it the Positive and neg pulses. my question has been and still is , how...

1996 15 HP mercury with spark on only one plug

He said he checked the numbers on the original switch box, to order the ones he did troubleshooting info says it should have Pos and Neg pulses out of the trigger that fire different SCRs in the CDI. I am not seeing any neg pulses going to the CDI. swapping the trigger leads into the CDI...

1996 15 HP mercury with spark on only one plug

I am down to either the flywheel that gives the trigger the magnetic pulses is bad or the new trigger is bad. this is why I asked how this trigger is supposed to do what it does. and no one can explain how it functions/works, so it is a head scratcher.

the manual advance moves the trigger coil around to change the timing

1996 15 HP mercury with spark on only one plug

done all that testing, but there is nothing written about how to test the pos and neg pulses from the trigger or more importantly how they are made. we did hook up a Simpson 260 to the trigger wires and rotated the flywheel with a drill motor, all I see are pulses in one direction this is...

1996 15 HP mercury with spark on only one plug

thanks but that does not help me understand how the one trigger coil is suppose to send out two different pulses (one Neg and one Pos) to the switch box telling when to fire the 2 spark plugs 180 degrees apart on the rotation of the flywheel. as I said the only way we can get the other plug to...

1996 15 HP mercury with spark on only one plug

Trying to help a friend with his motor that he reversed the battery leads on. he replaced the rectifier, trigger, LS and HS stater coils, and switch box, but only has spark on one plug. if you switch the trigger leads to the switch box the spark moves to the other plug. after reading what I...

    30hp 1989 yamaha firing problems?

over heating or low on oil (if it is an oil injected motor) will put the motor into RPM reduction mode to let you know the motor has a problem just in case your buzzer/horn and gauges are not working properly

Yamaha 90 no fire on cylinder 1

make sure all alarms and gauges work as they should to make sure . But nothing that I know of will just kill #1 cylinder spark except the CDI not getting the signal to fire it . could be a bad wire/connection, bad pulser coil maybe. are you positive #1 has no spark at any time? do a search...

Yamaha 90 no fire on cylinder 1

I believe that motor has pulser coils that feed the CDI to tell #1 & #3 when to fire those cylinders. need to test those inputs to the CDI

    Increase power 1993 150 proV

to get more hp you need to get more fuel and air into it at the proper ratio, and you also have to let that extra exhaust back out, so would probably need to modify the exhaust system also

    On-water toolkit for 50hp Yamaha?

1st you need to think about what you will try to do if stranded, prop change out is simple as long as you can remove the prop. something to keep the prop shaft from turning while you loosen the prop nut would be good. spare prop, spark plugs, maybe fuel pump, and fuel filter. and tools to change...

Suzuki 20hp … add a bit of power

Most regular boats that have power tilt and trim will act like what you are saying if the motor is trimmed up too far under way at higher speeds/RPM. trim back down a little and all is good again.

Suzuki 20hp … add a bit of power

the fact that the motor RPMs go up high at full throttle means the motor has the power to turn the prop, so putting more HP into the prop will solve nothing. if you know it hits 4400RPMs at half throttle to me is sounds like it maybe too small of a prop. what RPMs does the motor hit at WOT...

Suzuki 20hp … add a bit of power

where is the cavitation plate in reference to the bottom of the boat? Maybe that motor is a short shaft and you need long shaft.

Suzuki 20hp … add a bit of power

Sounds like the motor prop maybe sucking air or some other thing is causing adisturbed water at the prop. maybe motor is mounted to high, need to get the prop farther into the water

take a voltage reading on the battery while you hit the starter. may be a bad cable, bad connection, or a bad start solenoid

    Yamaha 90 hp 2 stroke

bottom carb is usually the one that collects a lot of junk for some reason. if that cylinder leaned out it will get too hot and score the cylinder walls. boring and installing an oversized piston would be needed. or boring all 3

Yamaha 15 hp 4 stroke primer start

My1999 C40TLRX 2 stroke has 2 temperature switches on the head, one tells the CDI when the motor is warmed up and the other tells when the motor is overheated. I have no idea what tells you CDI or ECU when the motor is warmed up so it can change the timing at idle or even if there is something...
