[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Looking ahead . . . the test fit is also serving as a rehersal of the actual installation process. My plan is to . . . Position the extension bracket near the boat/transom Apply prodigious amounts of permanent adhesive to the contact areas Pull & lift the extension bracket tight to the boat...

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

My car is a BMW . . . has no spare tire, no car jack, etc. My guess is that with this brand of car, you are not supposed to get your hands dirty :ROFLMAO: . Anyway, we are keeping our cars and spend money on the important things in life . . . like boats

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Something isn't right . . . My geometry calc's are indicating that the extension bracket would have to be off by about 3/4" on the width to be stopping 5/8" short of the boat's transom. (possible, not plausible . . . ) I have a hunch that it may be a matter of height, not width. So...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

When I made the transom mating surfaces, I used corrugated cardboard as a 'padding' to mimic the thickness of fiberglass. . . . Of course, if the fiberglass is thicker than the cardboard I used, it would explain the fit problem. The fiberglass was 2 layers, so about 0.09" each side . . ...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The extension bracket needs a tweak . . . After much effort, the extension bracket would not come all the way flush with the boat's transom. I suspect that the bevel sides are a 'wee bit' thicker/wider than my original take-off from the transom, even though I made some accommodation for...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

    I did a 'test fit' today . . . . . . . . . . I need to do some adjusting to get it snug to the transom . . . It's about 1/2" away . . . (13mm :p )

Yes, on the sealing up of the balsa . . . I usually use some resin for that purpose.

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

4 new tires went on yesterday . . . Bridgestone DriveGuard Plus RFT The car rides nicely. The Admiral's car went in for a couple of recalls (roof rack and rear strut). My car has a recall outstanding . . . something that can cause a fire. I suppose if the car caught on fire, I'd have to get...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I still use imperial units of measure . . . According to Google . . . "While the U.S. has a policy to adopt the metric system (Metric Conversion Act of 1975) and federal agencies are required to use it, imperial units (customary units) persist in specific industries like civil construction and...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Quick Update . . . I had a feeling that the underside of the swim deck was fairly substantial in its construction . . . . It certainly is . . . . . . 1.05" total thickness 0.33" Fiberglass 0.50" Balsa 0.22" Fiberglass It has a wee bit more fiberglass than the transom

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Transom holes are done. . . I also drilled the drainage holes that will let bilge water flow to the extension bracket where there will be a garboard plug. . The 4 holes on the underside of the swim deck are next . . . but . . . there is a vent tube in the way. That will be tomorrow's project...

95 Sea Ray 230 Sundancer stringer repair

Do the 'burn an inch' technique to get a more exact measurement, but generally you want the core to have been 1.5" . . . looks like you are at 1.75"

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I did some cutting of the transom today . . . Went through a bunch of saw blades, metal cutting and carbide for the most part. . . . The transom is 2.00 " thick about 1.5" foam core 0.4" fiberglass outer skin 0.1" fiberglass inner skin . . I got to see if I can get some more blades tomorrow...

    Tiny boat performance help

Even or only a slight downward angle would be all that I would do . . . Too much angle will tend to slow the boat down more than desired

    Tiny boat performance help

I have an 8-foot pram with a 7.5 HP outboard . . . similar situation with planing. Weight shift will help, but you may want to make some static trim tabs out of marine HDPE board (starboard) and stick them on the transom.
