Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

I’ve never worked on race boats, but I have worked on wannabe race boats and they all had solid mounts or at the very least special hard mounts.

    Sterndrive identification?

It's a TRS drive, it has the smaller lower. TR drive was used on big slow boats and has a much larger prop. Inside the boat will be the dip stick for the drive lube reservoir, that is where you check the level. Also a transmission, no shifting in the drive. That trans could be Mercury Marine or...

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

Interesting, I had no idea boats could be shipped on their side. If this is common practice in the EU, I would suggest that you contact a local boat dealer and ask how to correct these mounts. As far as I know, this engine will never align properly with the rear mounts in this condition.

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

Yes there is a problem with those rear mounts. Based on your Transom S/N, this should be a Design III motor mount set up. It will use the #7 on the right in the jpg you posted. This is rubber and called a Slotted isolator in the service manual. There is no fiber washer. The ear on the flywheel...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Some air will always leak past the rings. That’s why it’s so important to do this test as I described, you are listening for how much air at the 4 places. Remember that ANY test done incorrectly can result in incorrect conclusions. I can’t help with dimensions, I only use OEM tools. I don’t...

@Pmt133 yes I’ve seen so many weird things happen when people try to out think the designer. I really try to stay with OEM as much as possible. But sometimes it works. Case in point was a pair of Cummins in a Tiara. Complaint was excessive oil consumption and smoky exhaust. Customer wanted me...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Vac+fuel, yes if something else is different like coolant or air temp, exhaust back pressure, BARO or load. Expect it to change. Where did you hear the air leaking out? A leak down test is such a time consuming and difficult test to do properly that it is usually only done on cylinders that...

    1. was another tech who came back from MerCruiser school and said the engineers were running around looking for a particular fuel injection hose. Story was they had changed vendors for this hose and now some of the engines weren't meeting emissions testing with the new hose. 2. was someone who...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

I would NEVER pay any attention to AI when it comes to propping! It is getting it's information by scraping everything it finds. It doesn't know the difference between facts and someone in one of these forums who is so confidently so incorrect. Try whatever prop you want. I recommended the prop...

    cool fuel III interesting trouble

Can't argue that on the older product. I winterized 100s of I/Os for $99.95 fog, drain, oil+filter, lower unit lube and grease. No antifreeze. No problems. Heck, we used compressed air to blow the sink water lines. Then it the late 80s early 90s engines started to get more complicated and we had...

    Mariner 40E 6E9 S 103761 Can't find a definitive year or manual

MercNet had a refresh a few years back and lost a lot of stuff, some of it was support for older product. I couldn't find anything on MercNet for this engine. Without the Model Type, I'm guessing O.P. won't be able to find the year. As *7 shows, Merc didn't track model years on these engines...

    cool fuel III interesting trouble

The Cool Fuel III and Single Point Drain system have a bad reputation on the internet. I could never understand why, I worked for dealers that sold/serviced many of these and we had almost no problems. So I started asking other techs around the country and found that the ones that were seeing...

    Mariner 40E 6E9 S 103761 Can't find a definitive year or manual

Service manual is the same for all years. p/n 845202 is the newest -- it's on back order till next month YMMV Parts list can be 1of3 depending on year and Model Type

    Mariner 40E 6E9 S 103761 Can't find a definitive year or manual

40E 6E9 S 103761 doesn't seem to be a valid model type letter per the Merc book

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

I just looked up your Ballistic prop. I'm surprised someone would recommend this prop for your application. Looks like the Ballistic uses the same hub system. If it's exactly the same you could look for a Quicksilver brand prop. It's the same as the Black Max but called Black Diamond and doesn't...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Yes, I didn't think Merc would help you much but I was hoping they might be willing to help due to you being in the EU. They always ask for a leak down test. If I feel one might needed I will usually do a "dynamic compression test" instead. On these I/O engine I find they are just as informative...

I should add that if you buy from a good dealer --- you will never get that level of service anywhere else. Out of all the non new boat selling dealers I worked for. Only one delivered top notch service, and we charged for it -- oh did we charge. And truth be told, I think most of that was the...

I really don't have much of an opinion about saltwater. I've probably only worked on 30-50 salt boats, way less then 1% of the boats I have worked on. I've seen draining Merc gear lube out of a Volvo drive and refilling (sometimes need to do it twice) fix a slipping cone clutch. I've seen...

Them's fighting words Sir. I joke with the younger techs that this is a hill I'm happy to die on! I have both on my bench. I had always used #3 at home and PS at work until I retired and kept my road box with all the chemicals and lubes. I find Perfect seal to be a little thicker (more solids)...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Cam Lobe Lift looks right. But as far as the other measurements --- I have no idea. Mercury doesn't publish any of these numbers. Also I don't know if I would trust that the TDC that you're going off of is correct. The outer ring that's marked with TDC can be off. They can slip a little. The...
