Starts and runs just fine. That's the part i don't get.

I found a 1980s 15 hp evinrude on marketplace that was running that i agreed to pick up from a guy. I saw a video of the motor running, so meeting at the kroger parking lot want a big deal. I looked the motor over quick and it seemed ok. I took it home. I got the motor home and its not the same...

Stick with it. You'll get better at the each time you work on them. last 2 lower units i've dropped. I've had the impeller replaced and back on in under 15 minutes. 3 or 4 months ago i would've laughed at that.

After a full year of using multiple outboards at the river I am finally ready to admit defeat. A standard outboard motor isn't the best option for me in the rock bed shallow river I frequent. I am going to get either a mud motor or a jet motor. Does anyone have experience with both and which...

Solved, tons of crud between the gasket and the top of thermostat housing!

Friend of mine just replaced the impeller, so I didn’t inspect things. He said impeller passed the bucket/drill test with flying colors. On full throttle I can get the water to shoot out thermostat housing a good 4 feet in the air, so it’s pumping like a champion.

I feel the same way. I I thought it might be either the upper (power head to brass tube) or lower (brass tube connects to water pump housing) water tubing grommet, but if those were melted/in poor shape motor would not pump like a geyser our of thermostat housing correct?

I decided to get a back up motor after not being to fish for several weeks due to problems with my 15. I bought this 6 hp long shaft for $100 and was told it wouldn’t pump. New water pump and still no water coming out of exhaust. Water pumps great from water pump to thermostat housing (see...

I name my boats after the person I buy them from. This started with my last boat. I bought it from a guy named Cecil, so i named the boat Cecil. My current boat I bought off a guy named Darrell, but his facebook handle is Brookside. My current boat's name is Brookside.

Update on this mess of a thread. Motor starts and runs. I cleaned the carb and put on a new fuel pump. Seems to have resolved everything for now. I think high speed jet was clogged up.

Since I had the wires backwards, how was I still able to see spark in bottom cylinder it it’s supposed to be dead? Does it have to do with my gap testers being in place?

This is the best explaination I’ve ever seen for this! I’m saving it to my phone tank you! As far as the wires being crossed I only checked the black wires to make sure they didn’t go to the wrong cylinders. The orange wires didn’t even cross my mind.

Once again racer is always right. That’s rule #1 I need to follow. This is exactly right! I got it to cough this morning. I had the orange wires with the blue line and orange with green line backwards. Spark problem that I caused fixed! 😱. Now I’ve got a motor that quit running acting like it...

Folks i sincerely do appreciate all your help. I am happy to admit that I am a complete moron when it comes to these motors. I’m willing to take on advice and learn. Sometimes when I get 10 people with 10 Opinions it’s hard to decipher which route to take. I know the very basics of trouble...

Sounds great thank you! I do have a compression tester. I have really considered taking to dealership. I am getting more confused the more I do

Thanks for your help. I am honestly not sure what the proper tests to do from here. I have minimal experience with key ways, so I wouldn’t know if it was broke or not.

I’m happy to listen, I am not completely sure what troubleshooting tests to do from here. I do appreciate your effort to this point! Thank you.

I also have the blue/orange wire on the bottom I think: I’m at work not but will check when I get home.

I didn’t know that hitting fuel directly into the cylinders means that it’s not a fuel issue tbh. First time I’d ever done it, and wasn’t really sure of the logic. I was just doing what was suggested from another poster. I don’t know what diagnostic tests to do to check timing.

Purely novice It will jump about a 3/8” gap. I haven’t tried a 7/16” gap. Happy to try tonight. I’ve never heard of a DVA test so I haven’t done one. My compression is 96/100
