I've never had to tighten down the nuts to get the drive to go on all the way. I don't think you should have to crank down on the drive to get it to seat fully. It should slide right up to the bellhousing.

There are adjustments on SmartTabs. there are five different holes where you can attach the piston to the tab. If that isn’t enough adjustment, they allowed me to exchange pistons to a softer version at no additional cost. They were very helpful and accommodating.

The amount of difficulty you're having getting the drive on and off (especially without the O-rings) would seem to be a sign that something is still not right. Sometimes drives don't want to go on, but having to cinch it down with the nuts is not right.

The only time the wander should be a concern is when you're in a tight channel or a narrow river. Otherwise, just let it wander and only make corrections if you really start heading off course.

That wander is typical for V-hull boats at low speed. Not much can be done about it.

Rear slider is the best way to cool the interior quickly on a hot day. Open windows, open slider, and before you know it, the superheated air in the truck is gone. I particularly like that it avoids the ear-pounding turbulence that you often get when driving with just the forward windows open.
