E60TLEDR, 1996 3 cylinder. Compression: 130,130,128.
Ran great for me last season. I stow it in the desert, which I know can wear down plastics and varnish fuel if not winterized, but yeah I drained the fuel.
As the title states i'm dealing with an 60hp Evinrude that is giving me a headache. The motor dies out in neutral about a minute after starting. Sort of just fizzles out like its not getting enough fuel. Spark is fine and compressions is in spec. I've scoured the carbuerators with a fine tooth...
I was gonna say check continuity on plug wires and ignition as well, but you said you already replaced ignition, i would still check however. In my experience plug wires always connect from the plug to the ignition coil.. youres plugs to the stator..?
Do what you want, just saying it's about 10x easier to adjust idle screw then start messing with the pump. And in my experience 90% of the time its the carbs. especially if its been sitting for 20 years, regardless of winterziation.
So the engine was idling fine before you sprayed that into the carbs and then bogged down after you sprayed it in carb? or boggs down regardless of that?
If you pulled plug wire on any cylinder and it didnt change the power, the motor isn't firing on the cylinder you pulled plug wire.. make...
Have you adjusted idle speed valve on carb?
Did you do that while it was running or engine off?
If there is a high speed jet on this model I would adjust that as well, it can effect idle speed too.
How did you clean the carbs?
Carbuerator's can be tricky and need to be thoroughly gone over...
I bought a service manual for my 60 hp e60tledr, 2 stroke evinrude on marineengine.com but I lost it unfortunately in a recent move. The site doesn't sell it anymore and i'm having trouble finding it anywhere online... Any suggestions/ideas on how to attain one? it's 1996.
Yeah what is previously mentioned about checking the pumps would be the first step after making sure no air/fuel leaks from everything from tank to carbs.
Check the vent to see if it's open if it's not a pressure tank, as well as pumping the primer bulb when it start's to bog down or however...
You've made sure the spark is jumping specified gap for this model engine?
Sounds like it could be a carbuerator defect.. Even if idle/high speed settings are proper there can be leaks in the needle/seat, and float improperly set.. I would pressure check the carbs and make sure float setting is...
Try priming the primer bulb while it's idling.
If it keeps running, it's most likely the pump.
If not, and you said it runs well at almost closed slow speed needle it's likely flooding.
I would go over Carbuerators again via a pressure test. and spray the needle/seat area with water/soap to see...
So i'm pretty stumped with a project motor I picked up. Went from no spark and major fuel issues (wrong pump was installed) air leaks in fuel lines, carbueretor's gummed bad and mis adjusted. To able to run on the water but not at full power. If I bring it to idle it cuts out after about 30...
