Need help w my 2001 johnson ocean pro 115hp

Had the same issue with mine. Slowly getting worst over time. Changing a suspect battery cable which helped. Changing the starter resolved the issue.

Idles 1000rpm in neutral and runs a litte rough

My 200 hp Ocean Pro idles @ 800 in gear, ~900 neutral and 1,250-1,300 on a hose. The word "smooth" has never been used to describe the motor. The Mercury outboard it replaced was much smoother on the troll.

Entire electrical system dies when under way

The circuit breaker is part of the boat, not the motor. Mine was a small, non-descript white box with a red button mounted on the transom under the back seat. Should be on the main power feed to the helm within a couple of feet of the main power source (ACC terminal on the battery switch)...

Entire electrical system dies when under way

Should be a 40-50 amp push button circuit breaker (back by battery) on the main power feed to the power distribution panel. Had to replace mine for a corrison issue In-line fuse holders are a notorious for adding resistance to circuits. Given the issue when turning on the bilge pump, I’d start...

    Snapped a rod

I was building 100-125 rods a year up before I had ACDF surgery in 2020. Took 6 months off to recover, let my business license lapse and never got back in the game. Have done some repairs for friends but that's about it. Got into split grips as a weight saving measure when I started building...

    Snapped a rod

Looks good…. I have a couple of blanks in the shop I glued up (split grip handles) and sat aside 2 years ago. Maybe this will give me a bit of motivation to finally build the Century Sling Shot I’ve been eyeing the past two seasons

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

The voltage regulator regulates output of the alternator. The “boost” function on a charger is unregulated. A battery does not store electricity; it stores the chemical energy necessary to produce electricity. A battery charger reverses the current flow, providing that the charger has a...

    Servicing my trailer bearings

I get it, I was there one time as well.... Stainless steel can rust and is notorious for seizing and gulling in assemblies. If, or should I say when you get the piston out, there is a very good chance the bore is toast and you end up buying a new caliper anyhow. Rebuild kits where $65 - $70...

    Servicing my trailer bearings

I was in the same situation with my Kodiak Calipers three years ago. If you count the cost of the rebuild kits along with your labor, it's not so silly

Starting engines with jump box & dead house batteries

This warning has nothing to do with charging the battery, per se. It’s all about preventing voltage transients (spikes) that could occur in the process that could easily damage sensitive control modules in the ignition system. Keep in mind that most electronic ignition systems operate off 5...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Never heard of such a thing Some fly by wire setups can get that high but they’re programmable. Sounds like a mismatch between the helm and cylinder. What helm and cylinder were used?

Where were you 25 years ago today.

Sitting in my office 15 miles from the the Capitol Building. Mrs. Dingbat called and told me a plane hit a building in NYC Gathered a couple of colleagues and headed down to the conference room to check it out on TV. Turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit. Rumors of a 3rd...
