    OMC 4.3 Electronic Ignition Swap

There is also another test that can be done that measures restrictions in the fuel delivery system using the vacuum gauge. There is a section in the forum that details how to completely troubleshoot the boat fuel system; it is described there.

    OMC 4.3 Electronic Ignition Swap

There is a spec for how much the pump can pull at cranking speed (approx 10” Hg vacuum) and for volume I’d have to look up the exact spec in the manual.

They often crack in the cam valley inside which puts water in the oil.

2001 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL cracked block

I have used West Marine -100 for years and when I can find it I buy Sierra PG coolant and mix it 50/50 with water. That gives freeze protection down to -26*F. I also tested it with the refractometer to be sure. The WM -100 tests to a freeze protection of -55*F. The -100 is a different rating for...

And those PG antifreezes are ok for plastic piping but for an unyielding cast iron block you definitely want something that will stay liquid.

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Thanks I set them to the spec I listed a few posts back for the side hung floats. If the Quadrajet runs well I think I’ll leave it for now but if it acts up again I will try the Holley again. I think lowering the floats should do it.

If you get to zero F use -100! -50 gets hard at that temp I tested it in the freezer. Spend the extra $$$

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Only thing I could find was the spec for the Ford 460 with the Holley 4160 in the pix in my shop manual it looks the same as my carb, except being much higher in terms of CFM of course, and they said to set the floats level, that's how mine were but it never ran right that way. So something...

So then I’d guess there was some sediment in the bottom of the block passages that prevented all the water from draining.

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

I think they do just have to find it. They started using that carb in 1990 and used it till they switched to TBI.

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

this is one of my issues with Holley yes they have the most support of any carb BUT due to there being so many variations of the same carb, 3 different kinds of floats, side hung, center hung, externally adjustable, internally adjustable, it all gets really confusing. Not so with the Quadrajet...

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Both were at about 4/32nds from the top of the bowl at the toe of the float with the bowl inverted. Some specs (from Holley themselves) say to set them with the top of the float parallel but some say to set them with the primary @ 7/64ths and the secondary @ 13/64ths. thoughts? The spec for the...

2001 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL cracked block

You also have to pull off the bottom of the big hose between the 'stat housing and the front circulating pump, did you do that? GM cast iron blocks were never meant to be open cooled due to how cast iron rusts. So many rust flakes it is easy for passages to get clogged with rust flakes or even...

    Servicing my trailer bearings

To add to all these suggestions before starting watch a few videos on how to set the wheel bearing preload, this is very important and if not done right you will have continuous problems. Make sure the grease seals you get are the right size for your spindles. I started doing my own bearings...

    RV build quality - Rant

Agreed I think Covid had a bad effect on RV quality, boat quality and even vehicle quality. When I look at medium-size RVs with two 3500 lb capacity axles, little 15" rims and 10" electric drum brakes it makes me nervous. Vehicles have not had 15" rims and tires for like 25 years! Upgrade to 16"...

Mercruiser intermittent electrical / no start / no dash power

No power to the helm gauges and ignition switch with battery voltage OK suggests a fault in that engine's ignition wiring circuit, could be a fuse (blown, oxidized contacts) ignition switch, or wiring. Start at the fuse box, does the tab for the ignition fuse have battery power? Move on to the...
