Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

After adjusting the secondary throttle stop screw should there be movement in the throttle shaft if you push up on the vacuum diaphragm rod? See pix. Adjusted as you advised, Scott…..

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Yep that’s the exact carb for the 4.3 and my tale of woe lol! 7 years ago. I know I blew out all the air bleeds but now out of curiosity I have to go back at it again.

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

The coil I replaced the original with was a CDI coil so that surprised me! They make a lot of electronics for mating engines. What tipped me off to it was when I was hooking up my tach/dwell after running it for about 10 months the coil was REALLY HOT. Still tested within specs though. Running...

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Tried it again, and no dice. Runs like crap. One thing I did find out though when it was running really bad with the Quadrajet, I assumed it was the carb, or pump. Not the pump, pressure, vacuum and volume all good. 5.5 psi so not too high. When I first put the Holley on, it was not starting...

    Ethanol!

The issue is this: this is all being done for political and economic reasons adding ethanol to motor fuel raises octane but causes many many problems with small engines and marine engines. Not only that I have found via my own testing on trips to upstate NY where I could buy E0 fuel, there is...

    Convert trailer for inboard use

You will have to have a new rear crossmember fabbed to make it work, otherwise to raise it enough to clear the prop safely, you will have to really sink the trailer to get the boat on and off. As Scott said, a trailer made for an inboard is the way to go....

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

I tried it with the primary throttle plate set so there was .020" of transfer slot showing and the secondary open about the same amount (not by the transfer slot but by how much light came through if you shined a light from above (this was suggested by Lars). Ran like crap, very rich would not...

    Ethanol!

Yes the tank is vented but the actual EFI system is not. So, if you get small amounts of water in the tank, the fuel filter (if a true water separating style) usually will take care of it. EFI works simply on pressure needed to feed the injectors, based on what the sensors feed into the ECM...

    Ethanol!

E10 if that's what you're really getting, does not seem to cause problems in fuel injected engines because there is no open air vent in the system like a carb. I drain all my small engine carbs except the tiny cube carbs on my 2 stroke Echos. Doing that I have not had trouble. Running E10 on 2...

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

I got the auto choke all hooked up since I had the relay set up last time that’s what I went with this time. The old divorced choke seemed to take forever to fully open even when I replaced the thermostatic spring, probably because of the lower temp thermostat vs an auto set up (160 vs 195). One...

    Ethanol!

That’s a shame! Well here on Long Island they tried to ban power equipment too but the landscapers went to out local town board and the explained what the reality of that would be (greatly increased costs and having noisy diesel generators in the back of their pick ups to charge many many...

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

The coldest we might get for early/late season is about 45*. I’d actually prefer a manual choke! The guys at ARCO told me to use a relay if running it off the alternator like OMC & Volvo did. I can run it off the assist solenoid from the key on power on terminal. I think what I’ve heard about...

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Did you mean running the auto electric choke off of a relay is unnecessary? I’m thinking so since the wire from the alternator to the choke is pretty short. Now if it was an auto application with the power being taken from the fuse box it might make sense due to the length of the wire run...

Questions about the set up of a Holley 4160 on a 4.3 V6

Going to hook up the throttle linkage (I have the correct bracket for the OMC throttle bracket which is different from the one used on Rochester carbs) and also the electric choke later today after I complete my honey do list lol. Which brings me to a question: Of course, the + lead for the...

Omc 4.3l won’t stay running after 60 sec

The pic above shows a running test of a good fuel pump, 5.5 psi and it passed both vacuum and volume tests.

    safe?

There are many variables here. Trailer weight capacity and boat weight. BTW boats always weigh more than the manufacturer specs. My little 20’ Four Winns weighs 4960 on the trailer! Finally took it to a scale a couple of weeks ago.
