Self powered is definitely really nice in my opinion! So the kind he has just needs a good cleaning time to time to keep the algae off but otherwise is a reliable and reasonably accurate design in your experience would you say?

Thanks! I was trying to come up with something to keep the classic Mercruiser style. And I totally agree 100%. I wire things like they will be part of a submarine when I can. I do like the shrink tube stuff but lately for small connections I have been using a kit of terminals that have...

Started messing with console build, starting with the old Mercruiser 3 button switch. Found a stainless light up button that is a great match, 2 more on the way...

On mine the drive unbolted as a complete unit pretty easily from the back of the transom and when removed it had a universal and splined shaft that slid right out with it from (presumably) the flywheel that's inside that bell cover on the back. The engine just lifted right out after taking the 2...

Got a couple freeze plugs out, still have to remove motor mount to get to some of them better. Is RTV a good sealant for the new ones? Read Indian Head is good and I have that stuff too.

Trying to figure out how and where I'll mount these two group 24 house batteries.. Asked the site foreman but he was too busy catching a nap on the back of the boat. Thinking this forward compartment might be best to help balance more weight to the front for easier planing. Started making a...

I still haven't gotten to the point of pumping out yet on mine (still new/unused) but was wondering what it costs on average. Luckily around New England it is free at the fuel docks is what I'm told but depending where you are- who knows. Probably be good to look into!

I found a waterwheel like that on my boat too! Can be nice having a dedicated standalone speedometer vs having to use your plotter. Haven't decided if I'll keep mine. So it's leaking around that fitting there? Like from the rain or did you do a test splash!?

I don't know about you, but the mystery of the sealed vberth would be tough for me.. There isn't even an inspection hole? Maybe just foam or nothing in there but who knows!

A few small victories. Stove works great in its mounting, oven consistently held 425 over about 2 hrs last night as a test. Water system remaining pressurized over night with pump off. Found one super slow leak at a hose clamp, not bad!

Ford 302 ready for tuneup. You can see the terrible freeze plug condition. The ones I have to replace are brass and seem like they'd last way longer. These old Mercruisers came with steel from the factory I'm guessing? Some have surely been replaced over the years as the expandable types show.

Luckily I spotted this tiny stowaway that hopped onto the parts I was snapping shots of and was able to get her to safety. Watch out for little rubber crumbs (presumably from mfg cutting) clinging inside new filler hoses. Old plastic filler necks are in terrible shape.

Yes, I sure am. And the Mercruiser model 1 outdrive. Hoping the 302 is going to hold up ok but until underway in regular use conditions I won't really know.. Still haven't done my tune up to it yet but I did weld the crane boom up stronger yesterday adding a safety chain and hoisted the motor up...

Ah, custom companionway door with screened windows, I like it. Plexi looks super thick! That mildew preventer spray for outside furniture actually works pretty good. Or maybe some Kilz topcoat under there. The filler thing I think I have figured out- There is a special model porta potti (Visa...

Sweet, congrats! That thing looks pretty clean already really, the mildew underneath should be easy to get out of there with a good bleaching and brushing and letting sunlight in if possible. What's the plexi glass piece? Is that a sunroof insert for the hatch? Did they say why water tank was...

Oh nice, that motor looks very clean indeed, doesn't look like it's ever seen salt so that's a huge plus! You lake guys have it made! lol My buddy has an identical looking Mariner 6hp on his Catalina 22 with a standard prop and it pushes it around great.

Haha wow, I've encountered some similar misinfo with some sellers before too. Crazy how people own big things like that for years and years and don't even know what it is. 🤣 Can't wait to see that hull shine right up when you do the wax! That's awesome it came with 3 sails, hear those babies are...

Yeah, you're right, everything has to be tweaked. lol I'm definitely a subscriber to the "if it ain't broke- fix it till it is!" mantra 🤣 Sometimes I wish I could just leave things alone.. lol You could always color coordinate with the hull or, better yet, do something really unique all of your...

As a friend reminded me, might be time to touch base with the mechanical systems I haven't even touched since focusing on the cabin for so long. Cabin is pretty close, so figured it is indeed time to check on the below deck cockpit area and start getting that sweet small block V8 back in there...
