    J115PLSOR cylinder bank temp difference

In your picture, the oring looks stretched and there is no silicone around the water ports. Did you clean the remnants of it? Are the Orings correct for the engine?

    J115PLSOR cylinder bank temp difference

I have a '98 60* 150HPV6 Johnny. Although I have never measured the water pressure at the thermostats, the block water pressure is 35PSI at cruise. Water pressure is measured at one of the plugs on the port cylinder head. The thermostat springs are pretty strong and hold the thermostats in...

    850 Wiring

Often the quick disconnect on those engines goes bad. If you wanted to rewire it like OEM, you would need a suitable waterproof plug with two battery cables and about 7 other wires, that fit or almost fit the quick disconnector hole in the lower cowling. The other choice would be to use marine...

Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

The early electronic FI systems on cars, circa 1980s, were pretty simple. They had a lookup table indexed by throttle position, air temp, RPM etc. The value in the look up table was a time interval to hold the injectors open for the correct amount of fuel. There was also an injector open...

Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

Gee, I always found that boys will be boys and carbs will be carbs. Seriously, keep your fuel fresh, drain or run 'em dry when layup time and they should not need any work for a decade or more. Leave fuel in them or use old fuel and you will have issues. Just my experience.

How to remove pressed prop hubs before recycling

Gee, prop shops press the hubs on and off all the time. Why not try a press?

Impeller stuck on drive rod, got hot and melted the impeller a little.

Actually, after thinking about it some, I needed to split the brass hub on an alum prop that was seized to the propshaft splines. To do that I had to cut off the prop blades and the rubber hub. Then I split the brass hub with a cold chistle. I never had an impeller seize on me, but I think...

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

I prefer the decals on my '77 Merc 1500.

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

Gee, to be clear. You do not need to remove the pin on the upper shift shaft. I recommended you lift up on the upper shift shaft to verify the upper and lower shift shafts separate. It is very likely that the issue is the driveshaft corroded into the crankshaft.

Impeller stuck on drive rod, got hot and melted the impeller a little.

It seems to me that I needed to split a waterpump with a cold chistle, one time. The insert is either brass or fiber, so it was not too tough.

    Over Voltage Condition

Normally overvoltage would be caused by a low back voltage to the alternator. You might check for clean connections on the wiring from battery to alternator, and wiring harness to alternator.

What are these on + terminal?

You look to have 2 inline fuse holders and a circuit breaker (rusty). Not sure I understand the question

There should be other sources. Search on the OEM model number. Sierra used to make one. Surplus unlimited is another place to check.

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

If you look under the lower carb you should see the top of the upper shift shaft. It should come up, if the shift shaft coupler is not seized. You may need to remove the shift cable to pull the upper shift shaft up to prove it is not the shift shaft coupler. Sometimes the driveshaft rusts...

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

Actually, The PTT cylinders only attached to the orig. shock lower mounts. The shock upper mount bolts were used to bolt on a PTT cylinder bracket. You can see it in the pictures. The PTT cylinders upper mounts were at the top of the transom, whereas the shocks upper mount was about 1/2 way...

115 6c TOP piston cylinder issue

Unfortunately, what I found was that the aluminum alloy of the block was getting softer due to the saltwater exposure. Bolts would strip easier and some of the castings would get some powdered corrosion. I never flushed my engine because I kept it tied to the dock in saltwater, and there was...

115 6c TOP piston cylinder issue

Yes, the two ring pistons use a keystone-shaped ring. It is not compatible with the older 3 ring pistons. Most of the 1/4" bolts on the head of my engine could be drilled thru the block casting and a new bolt and nut installed externally. I probably broke 3/4 of them, since my motor was used...

Need your opinion on boat floor

To be fair, my '88 SeaRay had a layer of fiberglass over the stringers and foam that was under the deck. The bolts that held the seats to the deck were set in redwood or cedar blocks under the deck. That part and the stringers below were not rotted. Of course this was a long time ago. The OP...

    Help identifying v4 johnson

It is certainly a 90* V4 motor. Does it have removeable transfer port covers? If so, it is a crossflow. If not, it may be a looper. You could search on the block part number. If no action on the web, you could look on crowleymarine at special V4 engines for a match on the block part...
