A mess. good clean up. You replaced purple with red, purple is the color for "switch on" 12v, but ok, that's "switch on" 12v. and grounding is handled by that metal strip?..which is also the black wire. what is that metal strip grounded to. Which gauge is the voltmeter, looking at this backside ?

my new in 2021 Merc 115hp connected right up to the cables and controls on my '06 pontoon and the '05 Merc 60hp it came with, including all smart craft connections.

so the volt meter read the cold startup voltage THEN dropped to zero? Then jumps up while trimming, then drops to zero again? If you just turn the ignition switch on, not start, what does the volt meter do? Then what does the voltmeter do if you hit the trim switch?

I dislike electrical intermittent problems because you can't see it. Took my boat out in the spring, everything showing good on gauges, head out on the water, look at the gauges....and they're sitting at zero. WTF. Hit the trim button, everything comes back. My uneducated but common sense said I...

you didn't read the ad. You put about 3-4 inches of water in the bucket and a dab of peanut butter on the plank. They can't get out if the bucket, they drown. Just caught my first one a few days ago, and my sheds no longer have that "smell".

A pic would help, I can't "see". My 24' '06 pontoon originally, yes, was 3 sections/ compartments...nose cone, center, and aft. My new toons are in 5 sections. (another story). I wouldn't know what's "best", I'm not an aluminum welder and a toon repairer. If it was mine: I'd take it to my guy...

Doesn't have to be "angle iron". But it does take a knowledgeable aluminum welder that can identify the thickness and type of aluminum used on the pontoon. Different grades/thicknesses of aluminum can be ordered, usually as sheets, then cut as needed. This is where my welder is employed and is...

I agree. I had an age crack at a seam and a crack at an "M" mount on my original toons ('06). Expert welder with aluminum, no problem.

be sure and open up the bleed/drain....whatever you have......as welding on a toon heats up the air and it wants to "blow out" if the drain isn't open.

everything jimmbo said.....and, some gearcases/props have a plastic ring that snaps into the gearcase or fits around the prop hub. if it's missing that can cause ventilation issues also.
