Do you have the harness out of the donor boat? you could cut the connector off and splice onto your existing boat harness. Or get a used boat harness for the plug. I think this 3 ft harnes could be spliced in to boat harness as I believe the engine has female pins...

Its compression related willing to bet manifold to head, could be loose plug. Wouldn't think you are screwed but need to get in around manifold and head and see where it is coming from. Also wouldn't hurt to do compression check to rule out head gasket. Did it over heat ?
