Measure the length of the driveshafts from bolting surface to the top.----Pictures of the lower units.----Does the 76 lower unit shift to forward with an UP motion of the shift rod ?

No need to " mess " with these .---Just adjust them according to how the motor reacts.-----Right at the top is the low speed mixture screw.----Set all 3 at 1-1/2 turns out from gently seated.----Adjust as needed with boat / motor idling in the water in gear.

I thought the switch from HYDRO-ELECTRIC occurred during the 1975 model year.-----Are measurements of the driveshaft length different ?-----

How did the motor run for you last season ?----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on an open air tester , yes or no.-----Have you had the flywheel off to inspect coils / breaker points / condensers , yes or no ?

Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or better on a test device.-----Not some blinky inline tester ???

Did you remove the high speed jet screwed into the float bowl for cleaning ?------Checked the reed valves ?

Compression is good.----Spark is good.-----Next thing to do is clean the carburetor.

You should always start the trouble shooting with the basics.----Post the results of a compression test here.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on a test device , yes or no ?

At idle the carburetor throttle plates must be closed.-----Idle speed is controlled by timing.---Not to be confused with MAXIMUM timing as that is not adjusted.---So turn adjusting screw in to speed up the RPM.

Are you pushing the key in and holding it in while cranking it over to start it ?----Are the high speed jets found in the bottom of the float bowl clean ?

Simplification.----Use your garden hose to fill a bucket with water.-------Once bucket is full you close off the end of the hose.------The water in the bucket is not under pressure from the hose is it ??

Does the tell tale hose come off the side of the block or off the top ??----Post the compression test values here.---Did you look into 0432955 water pump hit ?----It has parts / instructions for this motor.

Stop-------Timing does not normally go out of adjustment on these motors.-----How did this motor run for you last season??-----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on all leads , yes or no ?-----The orange wires going to the coils , what color stripe is on them.----Post each one 1 through 4.----And...
