I've got a 2000 200hp ficht that frequently stalls during shifting. Occasionally I also get a Code 28 (neutral safety switch). Can someone please explain the proper procedure for adjusting the shift linkage? I think my cable may be stretched a bit and I would like to be sure this is correct...

I have a t-top on my 2000 boat and the aluminum tubes supporting the top have quite a few spots that don't seem to come off with metal polish. The spots appear to be lots of small areas of pitting. The tubes are about 4" diameter and form the support for the top.
