Who knows why Merc does what they do, but just guessing is they had several left over design 1's. Design 3 was used later and still is. Change over would be easy enough but could also try taking your housing and put in some a cleaning solution, maybe muriatic acid, rust desolver or if its...
What happened to your motor?
Don't know your location but might be able to find one in a junk yard. Then replace some parts to marine. Might be able to get one for $300 maybe then get new exhaust
Most likely you need to replace the lower shift cable. For the no start issue it may be out of adjustment or bad switch. Disconnect the shift interrupter switch on the shift plate and see if it will start.
Anyone add fuel liter to there the Chrysler outboard?
We see canister filters being added today, and have seen none on C-OB until the one on the 140HP i got yesterday.
Mains 10awg, otherwise it depends on the load for the circuit. If your going to led then the load decreases. The pic is for additional wiring, not the motor wiring. Use what the manufacture or the motor recommends
Picked up a 120 and 140 hp motors, and both are 20 inch shafts, power trim. The 120 has old style leg and the 140 has new style. The 120 has a fuel filter and pump attached to the motor, and the 140 has 2 fuel pumps in series.

The bats will take a charge from about any 3 stage charger. The difference is how fast you want to charge them. The lithium will charge faster then the AGM so guess it depends how much time will it be plugged in?
The alternator will also change when running, and would suggest using a ACR
There was a change over from the design 1 to design 2 in 1993.
Those thermostats can get clogged, even easier if there is salt. It uses a small passage design to restrict water flow to the manifolds. They were also used on some of Merc later racing motors like the 500EFI.
The manifold to...
Started the truck up to go get the motors and it threw a code for low voltage. Did my test and thought it might be one of the bats had a dead cell, but no there both low. The ALT won't bring them higher then 13.2V. Then tried one at a time with 40 amp changer, still no good.
Going to get a...
