    E15 and no REC gas

I don't know in what state you live, but here in Minnesota the street rod association maintains a list of stations where you can get non-oxygenated (Rec) gas. Do some searching and you might find some. Gas stations near lakes or oceans tend to have recreational gas available, versus the one by...

Might be buying an ‘88 Barretta Success 200

This seems like a good deal, but I would go into any 33yr old boat fully expecting that I'm going to have to spend another $1k-$2k on additional repairs in the first year. Good luck!

    Anyone use a river anchor?

I've used those on my 12' to 16' boats and they work just fine. My main is also a fluke anchor but it's not always great digging into rocky bottoms.

Any lasting proven method of painting a prop ??

85% of my boating is on Canadian Shield lakes with rocky bottoms and rocky surprises everywhere. Most years I have to have one or both of my props fixed. He always paints them but I would prefer that he wouldn't. The paint rarely last long so it's just one more pollutant in the water. I trailer...

Do older aluminum boats have the same issues with waterlogged foam?

I bet you that Aaron Rodgers antics will get you before the toxic red wood!

Bad News from a Family Member Today

On our honeymoon we went through waves big enough that it put a 3" gash in our hull along the keel. I didn't know about the damage at the time, as we were just trying to make it back to our cabin. The whitecaps were rough so we pulled up to the leeward side of an island. I cracked a beer for...

Do older aluminum boats have the same issues with waterlogged foam?

IMO it's less about the aluminum vs glass as it is how was the boat stored and used during its life. Every boat has a story. Some are epic novels and some are more like a short pop-up book.

Alarm noise when the key is on

It sounds like you don't have an owner's manual for the motor. Everyone here is guessing as to the possibilities, and they are good guesses. I typed "mercury 2002 125EXLPTO manual" into a search engine and found your manual in less time than it took to post this response. The manual will tell...

Something to Think of While Towing a Boat

I kept trying to figure out why you strapped the bow stop to the tongue....and why you thought that was necessary. Then I realized that's for attaching to the bow eye! In this picture, it is clipped to the bow stop so I got confused. It made me laugh.

Found a snake skin in the boat. Now what?

Years ago I had just pulled my boat out of the lake. My 5yr old daughter was helping her Daddy get the boat ready to trailer home when a 3ft red & black garter snake came slithering towards the back of the boat. I called my daughter over and picked up the snake by the tail. Scared at first, she...

    Best Phone App for Charts

I-Phones have built-in GPS as well. I have never needed to use my navionics app away from cell signals, but I use the GAIA app while wondering in the woods far from cell towers. It uses GPS as well. Mine is a little old (an iphone 7) so maybe things have improved, but I would never use my phone...

    Can't see my boat

Yeah, that Buick is too small to tow that load safely. I would be shocked if the brakes are equipped to slow down that rig in an emergency. Know that in an accident, you will pay dearly for being overloaded. If you are towing very short distances and at slow speeds, you might be able to get by...

    Small cheap roof for storage?

I used to store mine outdoors. I put the factory cover on and then the heaviest tarp that I could buy at the hardware store. Depending on the state that you live in, check with your local state fair grounds. Here in Minnesota, now that the state fair is over they take many of the big buildings...

panels lights at bridge no on /off switch

My 2008 Alumacraft is as others described, the instrument lights come on with the nav lights. Immediately upon purchasing, I put in a kill switch because the instrument lights kill my light vision.

Advice on Gas Cap for vintage Gas Can

Thanks for the responses. I have two generally good tanks and a third at home, so I hate to throw something away if possible.

    Beware

I'll catch some heat for this, but it's also possible that at 80yrs old he just didn't notice it. My father at near-80 never notices all of the dents in his car fenders until someone points them out. Everyone is right though - there is lots of great boat-buying info on this website for people...

Advice on Gas Cap for vintage Gas Can

Thanks. I think that a lot of these modern gas caps are made for plastic cans that have threads to screw the cap on. The metal cans just had angled fins for a quick "lock" of the cap.

    Towable recommendation

We've got a Rave Razor, which is good for two kids. It's the toughest tube that we've ever owned. My two 14yr old nephews are skinny and didn't think there was enough space. My 9yr old and her 7yr old cousin love riding side-by-side. My brother has one of those big 4-person tubes. It's nice but...

Advice on Gas Cap for vintage Gas Can

Long story short - I bought an old 70s pontoon with a 93 Evinrude 2-stroke. Motor runs great but the motor was losing fuel pressure. Squeezing the bulb didn't help much. The hose is new so I switched tanks. I pulled out an old Chrysler Tote Tank that I had sitting in the shed and everything...
