Just picked up this beautiful 1957 Fastwin at the local meet today. Electric start with the harness, solenoid box, shift cables and controls, key switch, etc etc etc
Beautiful original. All for the low price of $160! Now to figure out what boat to put it on?
Not able to look up right now, and need the flywheel nut torque value for a 71 18hp Evinrude Model 18102? Im fairly certain it is 45 ft/lbs, but want to verify before I tighten her down.
Afternoon,
Neighbour called me over to adjust his carb for him, but being a OMC 2 stroke guy, I wasnt sure of the adjustments on it.
I did not look, what is the needle/jet setup on this model? There is likely a fixed high speed jet, adjustable low? Any help would be great.
Was having dinner when the phone rang. Fellow said he heard I collected outboards. This is great, dont even have to search for them anymore! Nothing super rare, and only 1 OMC like I normally collect, but Ill take them, the price was right.
A chief that I have not determined the year yet.

Following up on an ad for an old 38, I met a 'picker' that had this collection of outboards. I obviously bought everything. Lots of interesting stuff. Find that testing panel cool. Lots of old tanks, oil cans, motors, parts, etc., etc., etc.,
The one AC35 Im curious about. Looks newer than...
I am in Canada, and wish to purchase a cowl from a guy in the US
How difficult a procedure is this? It is only a $20 item, so dont want to spend another 100 buck in duties, etc... ANyone have any personal experience with this?
Regards
Chris
Motor in question is a '58 35hp Evinrude, model 35515
I cannot remember off hand, on the motor end, which pin is for what? I am rigging up different test stands with built in key switches, solenoids and bus bars, with quick connectors for testing different motors, but cannot remember which of...
Evening Gents,
I have run into a problem that I have not seen before.
Currently working on a 1958 35hp Evinrude 35515
Before I begin, I would like to mention that this motor is on a test stand, not installed on a boat.
With the plugs out, the motor will spin as it should. Once I install a...
This one will be a personal motor on a cedar strip. Doing a complete restoration, down to every last bolt. Completely torn down right now, soda blasting and full paint.
Pulled the powerhead apart, walls were pretty good for a 57, light rust, rings were all stuck. Piston does have some light...
Sometimes taking the day off work is worth it ;)
1963 40hp Johnson, 1962 40hp Lark, 1958 35hp Evinrude, 1969 40hp evinrude, Gale parts motor for my Javelin, fat 50 leg, plus numerous heads, controls, props, gas tanks, pans, etc, etc, etc.....
Has anyone found a suitable material to fabricate packing washers from? Go through quite a few of them and starting to get sick of paying $1.75 a pop. Have tried a cork material, but couldnt get it to hold together quite right, due to the minute size I imagine. Make my own gaskets, yet dont...
This was a sound motor right from the start, great compression, only needed minor mechanical work. Re sealed gearcase, full waterpump, plugs, carb overhaul, etc...
Have everything soda blasted and ready for primer/paint. Got everything from Pete McDowell at nymarine.ca. Should look great...
Picked up a pair of Ad-10s for restoration. The one is seized, and is currently soaking in an ATF/Acetone solution, the second has a large hole in the head. Pictures below. Was hoping to get 1 good motor out of the 2. If I can solve the power head solution, I should be able to get the rest...
Was going to post in the Restoration area, but seeing as how this is Johnny/Rude specific, posted here. Mods move me if Im wrong.
Restoring a QD16. Already have my Seahorse Green and decals from Peters paints, but he does not carry the off white for the cowl. Anyone know a paint code from...
More of a poll than a question. When restoring vintage outboards, what colour do you like for your gearcase and why? I am currently restoring a 55 Johnson 10hp and cannot decide whether to go with black, white or green for the gearcase. I have seen all 3 done with success.
Took the old tin can out tonight and popped the boat in reverse to start back trolling, went forward! Engaged forward gear, went forward, neutral is forward too, lol.
First time Ive seen this, but then again, first boat Ive had with 34 year old cables on it. I suppose they've served their...
