So having not used the boat for a week or 2, I went down to start her today....not firing..
When I turn her over she doesn't even try to fire until......I let go of the key and then she sputters in a miss firing way, but no start.
Tried this a few times until the smell of fuel was...
So, as many will know already, I have a pretty brisk boat with a 5.0 Mpi Merc.
The engine is a great thing when not throwing sensor issues at me and is in great condition....
Only thing is that I have a never ending urge to get a little more speed out of her and would love to break the 70mph...

An interesting question and thoughts sought.
My mooring is on a fast flowing river.
The prop spins in the flow of current. To stop this I leave it in gear. My thinking is that it will stop any un due wear on the drivetrain.
What do we think...am I waiting my time ?

Recently my local Merc dealer thought it would be the case that there is no greasing of the shaft, uj and gimbal bearing on my boat.
I'm pretty sure I have a grease nipple in there on the output shaft to inner transom assembly.
Am I wrong here ?.....maybe I'm getting confused with my old VP...
