    alaska cruise

I didn’t see any local sight seeing flights on your list of activities and that’s a good thing. I’m a retired pilot, but still follow the industry and fly little airplanes (my roots!). The accident rate for sight seeing flights in Alaska and Hawaii is elevated for good reasons— challenging...

    Do I need a trailer?

Back in the ’70s, a 12’ aluminum boat was considered a “car topper” and that’s exactly how I carried my 12’ Sears jon boat on my ’68 Javelin. Still have the 12’ jon boat. Wish I still had the ‘68 Javelin.

How Do You Utilize Sliding Rear Window on Your Pickup

Thanks for all the responses. I thought that the rear slider’s best use would be to facilitate airflow. One thing I didn’t expect to hear was to stick long items through it. I would do that only in a pinch. In my other trucks, I used a bed and cab roof rack system to carry long lumber and such.

How Do You Utilize Sliding Rear Window on Your Pickup

I bought a new pickup in December. It has a power sliding rear window, the first sliding rear window for me of any type-- power or manual. I haven't spent much time with the windows open this winter, but spring is coming! If you're the driver of a pickup with a sliding rear window, how do...

80th Anniversary of the Battle of The Bulge

An elementary school friend had a dad with a prosthetic leg. It replaced the leg he lost in the Battle of the Bulge. That was the only thing ever mentioned. The dad was a very popular professor at Frostburg State College (now University). He drove a car with hand controls, quite an unusual...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

Interesting story, but where I live, it’s a process to seize property you don’t own and destroy it. No question it can be done. It just takes time and money. As far as saving pieces of the destroyed boat to “show the court”, I can assure you that a judge isn’t going to allow boat parts to be...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

Speaking as someone who has served on a marina board, having the marina dispose of a derelict boat and then “going after the owner” for reimbursement is much easier said than done. Trust me on this.

    Went electric

I have multiple battery-powered tools-- drills, a hedge trimmer, a pole saw, and a cutoff tool. In February, an acquaintance lost to fire his barn and workshop filled with a lifetime of hand and woodworking tools and two tractors. The preliminary investigation zeroed in on a battery for a...

    Out on the Lake Pictures

At “The Pool” at the end of Baie Fine on Georgian Bay of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada. Baie Fine (pronounced “Bay Fin”) is the largest fresh water fjord in North American. The Pool is a most perfect anchorage. “Cookie“ is my Ranger Tug R27. The Ranger Tug in the background is a friend’s R31CB.

    Lake Winnebago (Wisconsin) Question

Thanks. I’ve towed my Ranger Tug to Oshkosh for the show twice before. Who doesn’t take a boat to an airshow? I use it for accommodations for the show week. The marina is a 20 minute bike ride to the North 40 Airplane Campground entrance to the show. Works great. I have always gone to...

    Lake Winnebago (Wisconsin) Question

I’m towing my Ranger Tug to Oshkosh for the EAA Convention and Airshow this July. I will slip it at Pioneer Marina. On Wednesday evening of show week, I want to cruise down to TJ’s for dinner and then on the way back, anchor out and watch the night airshow before returning to the marina. My...

    Long trip suggestion boat

What experience do you have as a boater? What is your budget for the proposed boat? When do plan to start the trip? The Cheatham lock will be mostly closed from May- August 2022. Do you know where the Cheatham lock is located?

    This proves it

No kidding. The starter on my daughter’s Nissan Altima need to be replaced. The top bolt on the starter was easy to see and access and removal was a breeze. The bottom bolt was blind and required a long extension. Thank goodness I reviewed a couple YouTube videos about replacing the starter...

    PWC's on the ohio ideas

You’ll find much deeper water than 9’ on the Ohio and Cumberland Rivers. Once on Lake Barkley, it can get shallow when the water is drawn down to winter pool after Labor Day.

    PWC's on the ohio ideas

I suggest cruising Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley before the Ohio River. Facilities and things to do are abundant. Not so much on the Ohio River. Also on the Ohio River, you’ll have locks to contend with and pleasure craft are the bottom priority for lockage. If you decide the Ohio River is...
