How Do You Utilize Sliding Rear Window on Your Pickup

I bought a new pickup in December. It has a power sliding rear window, the first sliding rear window for me of any type-- power or manual. I haven't spent much time with the windows open this winter, but spring is coming!

If you're the driver of a pickup with a sliding rear window, how do you use it? Open by itself only? Open in combination with other windows? I figure there are a high percentage of pickup drivers on here who could help figure out how to utilize it.

If your someone who rides with windows open then it helps with circulation and noise. Wind goes in and back out rear

If your like me and never open windows then it's never opened, except maybe once or twice in many years to see if it still works

The longest it’s been open was the time it fell out on the way to the beach. Took a week to order the materials to fix it….lol

Used it twice in 6 years.
Once to transport a 10’, one piece fishing rod to the beach. The other, to transport a piece of drip edge home.

Grew up with sliding rear windows.

With a cap, it was always open to pet the dogs, or grab a water from the cooler in the truck bed

With the truck camper, is kids climbed in the back often

With an open bed, we kept it open for air flow

In college, we had people hanging out the rear slider and the aftermarket sunroof

Always had manual windows as the power ones today are too small of an opening

Have had sliding rear windows in several trucks. Only ever used them when I had a dog in the truck. Like to stick their head out.

I have like 2 months a year where I can enjoy having windows open. The slider has been opened 2 times since I owned it. Once just because and the other when the A/C went out. (Thermostat CEL) That's when I found out with it and the rest of the windows open on the truck the air blows in a circle vs in and out. Was a miserable 9 hour drive and the average surface temp was 109.

As a contractor, I often opened the slider to haul long lumber. My 4 door F150 has the “long“ (6’6”) bed, so even 16 footers would fit- with them sitting on the dash and hanging past the tailgate about 2’. Worked for me.

My cap doesn't have a sliding window so the one in the truck has not been used since 2001.

As others have said, if your windows are open, the rear slider gives you less wind noise and better air circulation. They are nice for hauling longer items also, but they are easy to live without also.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought that the rear slider’s best use would be to facilitate airflow. One thing I didn’t expect to hear was to stick long items through it. I would do that only in a pinch. In my other trucks, I used a bed and cab roof rack system to carry long lumber and such.

Mine leaked, so I cut it out and replaced it with solid glass. I don't seem to have the pics from after it was finished.

I use mine to facilitate air flow. In the summer with the A/C on I open the slider about an inch to let air in and then out the opened slider. Do the same sometimes in the winter to heat up the interion.

Rear slider is the best way to cool the interior quickly on a hot day. Open windows, open slider, and before you know it, the superheated air in the truck is gone. I particularly like that it avoids the ear-pounding turbulence that you often get when driving with just the forward windows open.
