When do you pull your freshwater boat?

If you have "almost nothing" condensation and are using E10, problem solved. If you are using E0 you have no ability to take care of the problem and you have water collecting on the bottom of the tank. A "little" amount of water can be handled. A "lot" of water is another problem. Phase...

1993 Evinrude 70hp Missing Prop, Seeking Recommendations

Obviously, you have no starting point data and you are flying blind. No sense for any of us to list what you need. Get a prop catalog (Michigan wheel would be my choice....Solas?) and search for your motor and general boat size and go from there. When you try the suggested prop, come back...

Transducer location for mercruiser outboard boat (pic included)

I would have positioned it about 6" more to starboard. But I see that your bunk is in the way. My first choice would be to reposition the boat so the bunks are not sticking out. Second choice would be to move the ducer to the starboard side of the bunk.

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

I looked this up again so I could post a link to what Merc had on their website back maybe 5 years ago. I couldn't find it. What they post today is a little bit different. Before: Run the tank as low as possible and stabilize what's left. Fill in Spring. If that's not possible, second...

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

Completely vs. Almost. Are we arguing about semantics here? What is completely? Until the gas pump nozzle trips? Until there is gas coming up in the tank filler hose? Now, when did you fill it? Mid November when it was 30 degrees? What about that odd January thaw when the garage rises to...

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

Mercury Marine has published guidelines for off-season storage, plus there are many write-ups about the myths of ethanol. Bottom line is completely empty or almost full if stabilized. Regardless, the storage conditions are most important. If kept in a dry garage the chances of condensation...

When do you pull your freshwater boat?

I built a garage (barn) big enough to fit the boat. I WON'T leave my prized possession out in the elements. Starting about early September I stabilize the gas in the tank and add more every time I add more gas. Come October, when the snow starts to fly, I'm ready to winterize and I have no...

    Four Winns H190 Trailer bunks

"EZ Slides" are "plastic" and they make launching and retrieving a breeze. They are a polymer material and the surface acts as a lubricant. Been using them for decades and have yet to see any problem with gelcoat.

    Stuck Gas Gauge

2015 Yamaha FXHO Cruiser. The gas gauge bars got stuck at about 1/2 tank. When I filled it up to about 3/4 tank it went up. Now as it uses gas it won't come down. I'm assuming there is some sort of float in the tank. I can pull the seat and see how much I have left, but I'd rather have the...

    Murphy's law

Yes, "most" of the gas comes out, but not all. The general consensus back in the 1950's was to run the motor out of gas if it was not to be used in the short term. Grandpa always did that and I followed his rule. Naturally, everyone has an opinion and their rule works all the time. On...

    Murphy's law

Motors are not supposed to run WOT unless the choke is closed all the way. "few Years"....the gas is crap. Drain and refill. If using the choke other than starting and initial few seconds of warm up, the carb needs to be cleaned.

    Leaking fuel tank

Second gaskets are not the norm. Maybe your tank is dented at the fitting place. If it were me I'd buy a new tank.

    Leaking fuel tank

Yes, of course, that's OB Motor 101. It's also advisable to let the motor run when it's unplugged to drain "most" of the gas out of the carb. The suggestion was to leave the fuel line plugged into the tank. The unplugged fitting at the motor end has a ball check valve that will stop a leak...

    Leaking fuel tank

Sure, buy the repair kit and do it right. Or,.....in the mean time leave the hose attached to the tank, but not attached to the motor.

    Trailer Rollers

The only keel rollers I will ever use are the poly rollers that are "self centering".

    Extending my trailer bumpers

What do you mean by "trailer bumper"? Are you trying to power load or winch it on? Maybe you need to post a picture of your trailer bunk setup.

    Grassl glass

Mr. Grassl owned a hole-in-the-wall shop a few blocks east of the Buffalo International airport. He made truck fenders for many years. In the 1960's with the surge to fiberglass boats, and with his expertise making FG parts, he bought 2 boat molds. If my memory serves me correctly, they were...

    removing paint from gel coat

I don't dispute your findings. Certainly, "plastics" are not compatible. Nevertheless, most boating references suggest using acetone to clean gelcoat. Gelcoat is a polyester, which is listed on the Chemical Resistant Chart as compatible with acetone. I have cleaned many a painted name off a...

    Lake Ontario

Lake Ontario is unique in that if you boat from the NY side it is almost always calm because of the prevailing SW winds. HOWEVER, it can be brutal in a north wind. The little tinny in my signature has been out on Ontario many times. It has never been a bother, but then again it was calm to...
