Buying a US boat and bringing back to Canada

A few years back I delt with a Canadian with the very same question. To keep this short and to the point, Check with Canadian officials at the point of entry "before" you start any of this process. It turned out depending where and when you crossed the rules could vary. Once you decide...

Adding dedicated battery for depth finder

Whether the dedicated battery is a LiFe or LiPo you will need a charger specific to that battery chemestry. Cell voltages and charge profiles are different for the two. And I agree that the last place I want a LiPo battery is on a boat. Being dropped, kicked, bounced around or heaven forbit...

    Regal 26 Leisure Cat

Try the manufacturer -- they built the rig. The only other source would be a used copy found on e-bay, or any other on-line used stuff store. That said, the information for the boat will be very disappointing as it is all safety related and very little technical stuff. Why? Because the motor...

    Tracker Tahoe trailer tire size

Either may be appropriate. What's important is the total weight of the rig which includes boat, trailer, and everything in or on it including fuel, and other gear. Then check the load capacity of the tires. If the load is more than the max load indicated on the tires you need tires with a...

    Engine hour gauge

Aftermarket hour meters tend to be 12 volt "clocks" that click off the amount of time the gauge has power applied to it. It doesn't matter if the engine is running or not. If the key is ON, the meter is ticking. There are some ways to power the meter but it would require getting power via an...

    Trolling motor batteries

It is a 36 volt system so three 12 volt batteries wired in series are needed. Unless all three batteries are 105 Ahr as recommended, performance (run time) would be diminished if one or two of them were 80 Ahr respectively. The lesser rated batteries become the weak link in the chain so to speak.

2006 Mercruiser 4.3 no power to Fuel Pump

Something that doesn't work and then mysteriously works is cause for concern as that mystery repair may come back to bite you when you leaste expect it -- like miles from the ramp!I suggest you really look into this further.

re-wiring 1988 bass buggy pontoon, would like some help

Every gauge has an internal back-light for running at night. So yes - 12 volts to each gauge is required but it comes from the Nav/Anc switch typically. Some have that line powered any time the ignition switch is on. Not what I would want but some folks are terribly forgetful and turning the...

5.7 /Chevy 350 hard starting and stalling when idle

If fuel is leaving the float bowl (through evaporation or leakage) it will always take a bit of cranking to fill the bowl again before it fires off. When the boat has been sitting for a day or two, look down the carb and cycle the throttle. If you see the accelerator pump squirting than...

Jack up the bow while boat is on the trailer ...

You might consider installing a small 1/2 dollar size port in the area where the lake & boat juices collect. There are all sorts of nice looking "ports" you could use to make this feature look factory. You could then suck out the bad stuff, add cleaning agents and water and then suck that out...

    Computer Illiterate?

I use Chrome avoid Edge. It just "works". You don't need a new way to copy & paste as the technique below has been around for decades and continues to work fast. To copy something: Highlight what you want to copy then press the CTRL and C keys at the same time. To paste: Put the cursor...

    Transducer

With that large boat you do realize any transducer will tell you what it sees directly beneath the boat - not what's ahead or behind you. In other words they are good at warning you right after you run aground or onto the rocks unless you really pay attention to it's readings while under way...

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Just saw a story about tactics like this at Niagra Falls where a "fee" was automatically tacked onto some hotel, restaurant and sight seeing venues. Turns out you don't have to pay these but unless you ask and they can show you where it is mandatory, don't pay it and ask that it be removed.

Minn kota armature bearing doesnt turn

If it is a sleeve bearing it will not rotate and the commutator shaft turns inside it. If it is a ball or roller bearing, then yes - the inner portion of the bearing will rotate.

Minn kota armature bearing doesnt turn

Brushes ride on the commutator which is round. So yes - they should have a slight curve so they make good contact.

    Leaf springs replacement

That undercarriage setup is actually quite common and desireable since it allows fore and aft adjustment of the axle so proper tongue weight can be achieved without repositioning the boat, support sturcture, and winch post. That said, the undercarriage is shot on this trailer so its not just...

    Truck for towing

Here are my thoughts on this. 1) The combined weight of the boat, all the gear you put in or on it, added to the truck bed for the trip, as well as fuel, water and people, you will have stretched the "advertised" capability of the truck and it's power plant. 2) Although 308 hp and 275 lb/ft...
