    1976 Chrysler/Force 6hp 2 stroke where to get new parts, manuals,etc.

Just looked on marinengine.com for 1976 6HP (63HH).....they have the impeller, housing, and other parts in stock. For parts NLA use their part numbers and look on ebay. Also, Crowley marine, boats.net, Franz marine, MasterTech, etc.... Look on ebay for a factory service manual. Would avoid...

    85hp charger speed/prop/rpm concerns

This is from the lync n sync stickie at the top of the forum..... 10. I can NOT stress this enough! NEVER set the low speed needles less that 3/4 turns out no matter how poor the idle or acceleration. To do so will run the engine too lean and detonation and melted pistons at or near full...

    85hp charger speed/prop/rpm concerns

This is the one I got off ebay......they are all pretty similar.

    85hp charger speed/prop/rpm concerns

I think I set mine at 3P = 3 spark per rev. for a 3 cylinder motor.....might try that and see what happens. Am not near my boat right now to verify that setting but pretty sure that one is correct. You have a 2 stroke, but it's not 2 strokes per fire.......it is 3 sparks per rev (for a 3...

    85hp charger speed/prop/rpm concerns

Are you sure your new tach is compatible with your motor? Is the pole setting on the back set correctly? Maybe get a tiny tach to verify the new tach is showing the right RPMs.....before shelling out money on new props.

    The End

Most folks here along the Texas Gulf coast didn't think too much about winterizing their boats.....until the Big Freeze of February 2021.....Sadly, a lot of I/O owners paid the price.

    Force 50 ID please

I would add a spark test to your list......spark should jump a 3/8 inch gap.

1998 Force 90 ELPT by Mercury Marine

Aint it amazing, 2 shops said the motor was toast......the third one did some basic carb work, and said it was good to go.......hopefully your next outing on the water confirms it really is fixed. Good luck. (y)

85 force lower unit drain plug

That pic shows the filter on the inlet hose to the pump......which won't hurt anything, but you really want it on the pump outlet hose that goes to the carbs.....that way you can tell if the pump is working or not. May have to reroute that outlet hose.....they got it kinda crammed in there...

Force 85 outboard barely idles and stalls

I would start with the basics first.....compression check (post the numbers). Do a spark test to make sure you got fire on all cylinders. These tests don't cost anything and if there is a problem with either test, fix THAT first. The prop coming off wouldn't cause any problems with timing...

Getting old and losing friends sucks

Many try to fill the void using facebook, and other social media. But "liking" posts and tweets is not the same as picking up the phone and actually talking to them. Got rid of FB 5 years ago and haven't looked back......

    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

I ended up doing the same......set them all at 1 1/4......runs great at that setting so didn't see any reason to mess with it further. Had it not run well at that setting, would have done like Frank A. suggested. And I know for sure they're not set below 1 turn out from seated......

85 force lower unit drain plug

Take nothing for granted when acquiring a new to you engine. He may be honest and "done" the carb (there are 3) but no telling if he did a good job or knew what he was doing. (y)

Most common problems with 4 cyl / 3cyl chrysler outboards

Keep an eye out for a good parts motor.......one that is not running, has a blown PH, etc......can be had pretty cheap. So far I haven't had any problem finding parts for my '78......using ebay, Franz Marine, marineengine.com, MasterTech, boats.net, Crowley, etc. Consumable parts like gaskets...

1998 Force 90 ELPT by Mercury Marine

Before condemning the motor, do as racerone suggested.....open it up and take a look at the cylinders and pistons. Pics currently can't be loaded on this site for technical reasons but you could make a youtube video showing the internals/engine running, by posting the link on here. No money...

1998 Force 90 ELPT by Mercury Marine

Your compression numbers are a little low but pretty even across the board. If the cylinders aren't scored/damaged then not sure a rebuild would be necessary. Bottom line on these engines.....you really have to do your own work on these....nobody around here would even look at an old Force or...

Engine stopped high end on water

In regard to running WOT-in gear-on the muffs.......not a good idea. Using a test wheel/prop and a large test tank would be the way to go.......or put the boat in the water......the prop needs a load on it to keep things from "blowin-up".
