so if your max throttle rpm is 5500, at 5300 you're kinda there. ya wanna go fast? Get one of these. lol

Best way to gain a little speed with 40hp engine

propping...It depends...and can get expensive.....I'm not one to steer anyone to a particular prop or what exact pitch you have to get. I can give you what I've learned and experienced. Engines have an operating rpm range, my mercs are 5-6000. You need that knowledge, After getting my new 115...

Best way to gain a little speed with 40hp engine

The 60 hp, merc, big foot, 4 stroke, efi, pushed my '06, 24' twin tube pontoon at a max of just under 21 mph on a cold, late winter day, just me. The same boat gets about 26 mph under similar conditions with a 2021 merc, 115 hp, CT @ 5800 rpm. With a one pitch lower prop, my rpm can touch 6100...

Best way to gain a little speed with 40hp engine

everything above is correct. I'll add: you didn't say what your WOT rpm is currently. If you're at max rpm, then maybe reducing the pitch by 1 inch MIGHT get you an increase of 1-2 mph. Emphasis might. Torque is a measure of how much work you are doing (pushing a boat) HP is a measure of how...

    Depth Finders?

I have this. It has map, route, nav, waypoint, go to , depth shading, gps, depth, speed, compass, etc. I'm using it on the chesapeake and just got back from Lake Raystown, Pa. I don't fish. It's exactly what I need and really like it. I think it's one of the cheaper ones with Maps. I did have...

I am starting to believe some of the global warming in N J.

I am starting to believe some of the global warming in N J.

or you could spend 11+ million dollars in an ocean front property on an island that was supposed to be underwater years ago and just not worry about it.

    Lucky Day

According to a service manual on a Garrett AIResearch 331-6 turboprop engine used on the MU-2: If no light off on an initial start attempt, open access panels at the engine and "malletize" the fuel control unit.

    Outboard motor upgrade?

this is as close as you can get, I bet..... I'm willing to bet I can get 3 pontoon boats for the cost of one of these.

    Outboard motor upgrade?

yep...deck boats... I brought that up as a question as to why they didn't really catch on... someone's answer was pontoons are easier and cheaper to build.....cost less...

you can complain, it just won't change anything. having fun though, right?

    need a new prop ?

+1 on motor height is critical on a pontoon. I've got one. On mine, just 11/2 inches lower made a huge difference on my repower. plus, is the prop in good shape. also, my merc has a plastic ring that snaps in place at the gap between the prop and gear case to eliminate ventilation from exhaust...

    Outboard motor upgrade?

mainly because they/we don't understand the physics involved. Most people think doubling HP will "double" my speed. Drag coefficients say no. A pontoon has a heavy front half. Trying to get that up with tilt just forces the back down, then more speed forces the back up, forcing the front...

    Outboard motor upgrade?

just came across this....to the OP. a person needs to understand the ramifications of their choices..... a brand new boat and the owner is saying "WTF" already...

    Outboard motor upgrade?

This is a correct proven statement from my experience. I re-powered my pontoon from a 60 to a 115 HP Merc. I gained only a 5-6 mph increase. My fuel consumption increased noticebly. And it cost me a net of $8000....I did get the performance I wanted, so I'm content with my choice. There is a lot...
