    Transom replacement or design flaw?

That bottom piece looks compromised to me. At this point I would replace that, make the plywood go further down and it’ll be much stronger. Adding a knee brace would be appropriate also.

    Electric wiring question

Well, the charge is hooked to 120 volts. I’m not sure why it’s on the negative side unless you accidentally hooked it up backwards and fired it up. I’ve seen them like that also. I looked it up: Edit A boat battery charger has fuses on the negative cable to protect the wiring from overcurrent...

    Exhaust Boots Install

If you put lube on it, it will pop off! I've used bellows adhesive and it would come off. They get installed dry only. That being said, I use power tune to install as Bondo said. It gets them on nicely and dry's up quickly so they stay in place. As far as all other hoses, a dab of power tune...

    Carb Needle condition / function

is there a simple way to check if I really closes the fuel flow in the right manner? Once you get the float height set, tip the carb over, apply pressure, I use the mighty vac that does pressure also. It should hold at 5-7 lbs.

I messed up my 35hp Merc.

I have the same motor. I’ll start with, I never liked mercureys much. Mine has struggled to idle properly for awhile now. Once past idle it’s fine. Keep in mind that I am a marine mechanic and have rebuilt hundreds of carbs Of all kinds. This one bothers me, a lot. Been through it three times...

Are Chrysler motors junk and to be avoided?

It’s in the storage shed about 10 miles away. I’d have to get out there and check. I think it’s from the 80’s. It’s served me well but things wear out. Had to special order the throttle gears from a old school dealer, he got them from Austria. Broke 2 rewind springs, I got lucky and found them...

    Marinco solar vents-Junk?

Quality is not what it used to be. I've taken other fans apart, oiled the bushings with gun oil or sewing machine oil, it does not varnish up over time. 3-1 oil will. Sometimes you have to drill a small hole in the back bushing housing to get the oil in, seal the hole with a dab of silicone...

What is this on my 6cyl in line 165HP?

Mine was like that when I got it. I wire wheeled the area, wiped down with acetone and jb welded it. Before the jb dried I dabbed it with a rag so it looked like cast iron, let dry and painted the area. Can’t tell it was cracked. 7 years and it’s still holding. If there are internal cracks you...

Alpha one gen II leaking water near hydraulic hoses

Oh boy. Yeah you have a rotten transom. On mine it was rotted but still felt fairly firm. I did replace the rotted transom and that led to the stringers and entire floor, carpet And foam flotation. It’s a fairly big job but I know it’ll last me for years.
