    Holy cow. They're making this difficult. The rubber seal is grooved on the OD for the snap ring and grooved on the ID for the thermostat. Not sure how this is all going back together

    I'm back. Putting together a block, waiting for gaskets, etc. Thought I would replace the t-stat however I'm having a hard time getting the old one out. I've soaked with penetrating oil but it's like the top of the Stat is welded to the housing. Any suggestions?

    I had to think for a minute but get what you're saying about the block off plates needed for a closed system between the vp manifold and riser, then an inlet for raw water on the top end. I would really like to get this this boat in the water quickly if possible, I'm paying for an empty slip...

    Captnmello is skeptical. It would be quicker than waiting a couple of months for a reman build but if it would drop in without to much trouble it would be nice. Another option is I could get a running sbc out of a truck for about a grand, maybe a vortec , and "marinize" it and stay with raw...

    Regarding the heat exchanger, the raw water is plumbed through the on board hot water heater, does that count?

    All right. Thanks. I thought that may be an easy way to convert to fresh water also. After reading Scotts post I was under the impression that the Volvo manifolds would work on the vortec heads. Also didn't see much in the way of electrical; alternator, coil sensors, electric choke etc...

    Ok. Thanks, I'll start doing some more research. If I were to seal the cracks that are visible and the system then held pressure, would that be an accurate indicator of condition of heads and manifolds. Sorry for all the questions, these cooling systems are new to me.

    Thanks once more. If I use vortec heads the intake manifold is different but the same exhaust manifolds will work assuming they're OK? The hunt is on.

    Does anybody know if a truck 350 4 bolt main roller cam will work after gaskets changed if it's a tbi . Will my intake with 4 bbl holley be compatible?? Thanks

    Thanks again Scott and everyone else who's chipped in. Pulled the intake manifold this morning. Kenny called it. Large crack in the valley. I'll try to post a pic. Is this an automatic new block? Has anybody ever successfully repaired this type of crack?

    Thanks Scott. Where is the best place to pressurize the block? Also, there are 3 separate riser gaskets on each side. Did someone just keep adding them instead of remove/replace or is that normal?
