    PL-88 load adapter

Even if the coil is bad, shouldn't I be able to get a voltage reading at the primary lead where it attaches to the coil?

    PL-88 load adapter

That's very true about the new components, but I'm confident it's cranking fine, I cleaned all the connections when i put the new starter on, I don't know the actual rpms because my tach works intermittently, I'm getting the proper voltage from the stator to the power pack.

    PL-88 load adapter

I've read at least 250 rpm, my starter is brand new.

    PL-88 load adapter

I've been dreading these electrical/electronic issues for a long time, expecting them the older my engine gets because I'm not very good at understanding some of this, but if the connector is together and it's a sealed connection, how do you probe it? And I'm still reading through the cdi...

    PL-88 load adapter

Thanks so much, so when it says to check the dva "connected", do I pierce the wires with the meter leads?

    PL-88 load adapter

I have a 1995 Johnson 200hp Venom with no spark on all cylinders, the stator is new, the timer base dva output is .5 -.8 volts. To check power pack output my Seloc manual says to disconnect the primary lead to the coil and use a load adapter to check the voltage. Does leaving the primary lead...

    1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro help #2!

My stator is new, I'm questioning the timer base and power pack, I've tried two other timer bases, besides my original, I tested resistance on all three and got very similar ohm readings, which seem low but they're consistent, the one I have on there checks good on voltage output( .5 - .8 volts...

    1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro help #2!

The loose magnets you're talking about are the ones that go around the stator, or the timer base magnet? Is the timer base magnet oriented in a specific way? Could it be loose and maybe slip, causing timing/no spark issues?

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

Sorry this is long winded, but my starter crapped out, finally got a new one yesterday, so I know it's cranking fine. But still no spark, the voltage at battery while cranking goes from 12.8 to 11.6 ish. The stator is brand new from a company called Caltric on ebay. I ordered a used timer base...

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

So the yellow wires go to the rectifier for charging the battery? The rectifier has nothing to do with spark? Which means I need to concentrate on either the timer base or the power pack to figure out why I have no spark.

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

So if I hook my meter leads( without an adapter) to the yellow stator wires and crank the engine, how much voltage should I see? Will I see a voltage increase at the battery posts at cranking speed, or when engine is running (which of course it's not right now because I have no spark)?

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

Do I need a dva adapter to get a voltage reading? I was reading a little about one, but not sure if I actually need one??

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

Thank you! So if I check those yellow wires with my volt meter while cranking the engine, I should get voltage?

1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

What type/brand of stator did you get? I bought a new one for mine on ebay from Caltric, the two large yellow wires that come out of the back side that go to the rectifier came without a connector, just push on spade style connectors, does it matter which one goes on which side in connector from...

What were the resistance readings you got from timer base?

    Test wheel needed

Yes, but I don't even have a part number to look for, if I search by outboard model number, it just shows all sorts of wheels, nothing specific.

Yeah, I'm not real thrilled with that idea. I just can't believe it's so hard to find the right one.

    evinrude pl-88 load adaptor

Uhh, I don't know about that, at least for me, I'm having a heck of a time trying to diagnose a spark issue, 1st, intermittent spark, then spark on port side only, then no spark at all. New stator, used but supposedly good timer base off ebay, new power pack, then switch back to old power pack...
