If a man has a Mercury 7.5 that has points, and a 1975 Mercury 7.5 does not use points, the conclusion might be that the man does not have a 1975 Mercury 7.5. But he might still need points.

What is the model of the motor? They are not all the same. I suspect you are talking about a bracket. The bracket that holds the switch in place. Not understanding how you installed a new switch without having removed the bracket.

2007 40hp Merc carb and compression questions

The BTR has an electric starter motor. The BNH has pull start. You mentioned pulling the rope when doing your compression test so I assumed (yes, I know) that you don't have electric start. Are you wanting your model to have low compression?

2007 40hp Merc carb and compression questions

Your model motor has an automatic decompression device so that it can be more easily pull started. This throws off the compression test numbers.
