Am I hurting things by not running WOT?

I have found over the years running state boats where engine hours, fuel used records were kept a on a daily basis that by running almost exactly as you describe gave the best economy. Get on plane quick and then back off and run 100 or so rpm more than it takes to hold it on plane.

    Need to reduce ventilation

Read this earlier and had to go towards town for some shopping and this stuck in my head. Without looking for my 65 year course notes from Naval Engineering and Design I did remember P-factor being discussed. Not as big of a thing in an outboard or I/O where the trim can be adjusted to keep...

    Best slip on shoes?

I get a kick out of the people who say their favorite shoe company has changed sizes from what they used to be. Are these the same people who while in their mid 40's complained about their favorite newspaper going to a smaller type face with ink that was not quite as black? I will guaranty...

    Car Hood Boats

They were made of two welded together so both ends were pointy, hard to attach a motor. Mostly welded together by farmers and auto mechanics with no idea about marine design but they still worked.

    Car Hood Boats

Got talking with a young fellow (I don't think he was a day over 50) about homemade boats. I mentioned the metal boats constructed of two pre1949 car hoods welded together and he never heard of such a thing. There used to be quite a few around and there was a guy who used one on a regular...

    Tohatsu. question

When I got my first Tohatsu I found out that the water has to be a couple of inches higher in the barrel than my previous motor. If running on muffs I turn the water on high enough that it sprays around the cups and the pump will prime and circulate like normal.

Does Anyone Know Any Halloween Songs?

I do now but I had to look it up!! I knew the song as soon as I heard the melody but never paid any attention to the words. Must of heard it on the radio of my work truck back then.

Does Anyone Know Any Halloween Songs?

Vesti La Giubba translates as "put on the costume". Probably the most recorded aria for tenors ever. Every well known tenor has recorded it. Enrico Caruso himself sold over a million records of it in the 1900's. Perhaps I expected at least the retired Junior High music teacher to know it, I...

    Unknown part

I have a feeling your shop looks like mine. Lots of projects to be done someday with stuff too cool to scrap or things taken apart just to see how they work. Does your wife ever look around and tell you that you are an idiot in a roundabout way? By the way I inherited the genes. My father...

Does Anyone Know Any Halloween Songs?

I play at a show once a month that consists of several groups that play classic country, bluegrass, gospel or any combination thereof. Most all the players come early and we get together in a back room to jam, get to play with people we normally don’t see that often, make sure we all don’t have...

    Unknown part

What boat? What motor? Has the motor been replaced at one time or another. Looks like it might have been the hydraulic pump and controls for an add on tilt and trim and the original motor was replaced and they left that on the boat.

    Trolling Motor Help

I believe this is the 12/24 charge/run switch they are posting about. Different mfg's use different variants of this set up. The last boat I had with this setup I just took the defective switch out of the circuit and wired the receptacle direct as it was easier to just lift the hatch and...

    Trolling Motor Help

I think the switch he is asking about is not shown on the diagram as it is part of the boat wiring that feeds the power to the motor. Would almost have to be there but I think it is before the receptacle that the motor or a charger plugs into. Some setups consist of two separate switches for...

Antique Motors - Scott Atwater, Game Fisher and more

Take a look on Ebay at "Vintage Complete Outboard Motor Engines" See what the asking price is for motors similar to what you have. Then find out what they actually sold for. Maybe it is my age but the prices that they want for some of the motors there is 5 or more times what I think they are...

Proper Nomenclature of Various Retaining Rings

Having tinkered with things mechanical over the better part of 85 years the were some on here I had no idea what they were really called. There is a misprint on the lower right hand side . It should read "constant section ring."
