    Out on the Lake Pictures

My happy place. Some day I'll be here full-time.

Tilt/Trim gauge stuck in UP position.

Could be as simple as the sensor ground wire is cut from motor movement, or corroded where it screws to the bracket. If that checks good just replace the sensor. They do wear out eventually.

    Big differences, same power?

On a related question: between the Chrysler & Merc versions I'm better off with the Merc, right?

    Big differences, same power?

No this is a Force 5hp. I'm assuming the differences <> 1990 is the Chrysler - Merc change-over. Mine is 1990. I still need to pick something obviously different in the parts lists and verify that's what I have. These tables don't always reflect production-line realities. Just wondering why a...

    Kill switch location

If it's not a tiller model the 'kill' is part of the wiring harness.

    Cheap Stereo Documentation Question

I thought I'd take my shot. I googled the ASIN number (B01LWYLFGH) to see if that would lead anywhere. It leads everywhere, and nowhere. It also lead to the Kenwood Bluetooth radio in my boat that's several years old and has a different layout--but same features. I think that's the key here...

    New Trailer - Weird Bunks

Don't cut the boards. * There's going to be a boat sitting on the trailer 99.9% of the time, unless you live on a lake. * If the long board tilts backwards it may catch on the ramp when backing it EMPTY towards the water. At best it's embarrassing, at worst you'll break a board or bracket & not...

1964 Cherokee boat decals does know how to find them

I'll probably take another shot at it. This time on a white plastic sheet & sealed with acrylic. Live & learn. The letters really were waterproof--they slid off the film like little tiles. 🤣

    Big differences, same power?

Today I received a service manual I'd ordered and practically on page one I'm asking WTF? How can these different years of the same outboard with very different displacement and rpm specs produce the same "BIA" power? Looks to me like the older spec was significantly rounded UP to claim 5 hp

Found 1976 Evinrude 85hp with a new looking jet

I don't understand why it won't fit on a '78. Is that the year we went metric?

1964 Cherokee boat decals does know how to find them

On a related note... I thought I'd be cheap & clever and reproduce a missing capacity label for my pontoon. I used a color laser printer because the ink is waterproof. Printed onto adhesive-back clear shipping label sheet. Came out perfect! Then after just one damp night... ROFL Don't try...

    VRO delete -- replace pump?

A few years ago I blocked the oil side of my fuel/oil pump per the service manual & suggestions on this forum. I recognized that the motor still has the mounts for the previous type pump and I've always wondered if it would be best to switch pumps? Does the VRO pump work at full efficiency with...

Normally the mods delete such posts before the OP notices the photo didn't attach. Lol

    New Trailer - Weird Bunks

Looks odd on dry land but when you back that into water the boards will try to float & will level out.

    Mariner 5M no impeller?

I have a Mariner 5M model 661S serial 035994. Some lookups don't even accept 6-digit serials for Mariner outboards but as near as I can figure this is a 1976 5 HP made by Yamaha. It has an air shroud under the cowl and some exposed cylinder fins sticking through the lower cowl so the power head...

Want to install tach but have an unusual outboard setup

I'm glad that worked out for you. It doesn't make sense to me that dirt bikes & lawn mowers have a universe of add-on gauges & electronics but boats need to be this difficult?

Replacing old 2 stroke with newer 4 stroke advice?

Well I'll never have $12,000 to invest OR throw away on a brand new 120. What about portable outboards? Are there any 4-strokes in the 5-10hp range that are reliable and likely to still be humming along in 50 years?

Replacing old 2 stroke with newer 4 stroke advice?

Did I read that right? A $12,000 4-stroke is considered disposable? Environmentalists can suck smoke--I'm sticking with 2-stroke antiques.

    Rolling boat over

I don't know if they ALL have an angle to the motor mounting plate but mine does. Perhaps it's to counter the sag of the weight of the engine... Perhaps to insure an engine doesn't slide out of the stand sleeve when you pull the pin. Anyways that angle would prevent two stands being used as the...
