Finally got around to checking the senders. Both the original sender and the new one are spot on. Given that this is a brand new gauge, [old one did the same thing] there must be something else happening... but what?

Found the problem causing the code and the alarm beeps. The ignition coil / rectifier was the issue. New one installed, and good to go. :) Now if I can just figure out why the temp gauge isn't reading properly. New gauge, new sender, actual engine temperature at 158F, [varified with scan and...

Still trying to figure this out. If there was a open circuit somewhere in the ignition coil itself, would the engine even run? Thanks.

I have service manual #36. Not sure if it is the correct one for this engine, from the 3 different ones? Thanks.

I have installed new plugs, wires, cap and rotor and still have the two warning beeps every minute, and the EST1 open code showing up. Again, the engine seems to run just fine. I am puzzled, and don't know what else to try? Thanks.

Thanks for the chart! It had 100% power available during the scan, so I am going to assume the alarm beeps are related to EST1 open code as well. That chart narrowed down the possibilities. Where does the ECM get its coolant temperature reading from? Does it use the gauge sending unit, or...

Thanks for the info. I did swap the sparkplugs and ignition wires on cylinders one & two, but it made no difference. Guess I will check the cap and rotor next. Any thoughts on the alarm and the temperature gauge?

Working on a 2007 MPI 4.3L, [SN 1A041962] and have a few issues. First is the EST1 Open code that keeps coming back within the Diacom software. The engine appears to be running just fine on all 6 cylinders, I have checked the ignition wires, and the plugs look good. I can delete the code while...

    2001 Mercruiser 5.7 TBI Won't Keep Running

I connected the scanner back up, and the TPS appear to be working just fine, through the full throttle range, on both engines. I don't think its a fuel pressure issue either, as both engines will run indefinately at about 1200 RPM with the TPS sensors disconnected. If the pressure was low...

Thanks guys. I'm going to take a few days off from working on it for my own sanity... LOL!

I went to swap the TPS sensors from one engine to the other, and one of the attaching torx bolt heads striped on the way out.... I'm starting to hate these engines.

#3 is the fuel pressure sensor, and #4 is where the fuel line connects. I don't have the necessary fittings to connect my gauge to either of those. With regards to the MAP and TPS wiring, everything seems to check out with the ohm meter. All of the other battery and ground cables are in decent...

    2001 Mercruiser 5.7 TBI Won't Keep Running

Where item #3 is located in the diagram, is where the fuel pressure sensor is located. During the scans, it did not show any malfunctions there. Can you please explain what you mean by "ring/ohm out"?

Where does one tap into the fuel system on a TBI engine to check the fuel pressure? Unlike an MPI engine, there is no fuel rail with a schrader valve.

I would not have replaced the sensors if there wasn't a problem in the first place... Putting them back does not solve anything.... I tried that.

Chris, The new MAP sensors are aftermarket made by BWD. OEM ones are no longer available. [861249A1] I have not checked fuel pressure yet. I made the assumption it is ok, as they will run at 1200 RPM just fine. [TPS disconnected].
