    Leak into bilge, bellows?

I made one very similar to yours. Helps tremendously, especially at now 65.

pieces of something when taking lower unit off

Probably got a piece of debris caught in there and damage occurred while trimming down onto it. Any damage to exhaust bellows?

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

Your picture is puzzling. It appears the upper shift shaft is elevated above the lower. Are you sure you got the two halves mated back together correctly?

    17 vs 19 vs 21 Pitch?

What is your current prop, make, model, aluminum, steel? Depending on your budget consider going to one of Mercury's higher end props such as the Enertia. It comes in 1 inch pitch increments so you can get it dialed in better and this prop is a known top performer

pieces of something when taking lower unit off

I was thinking shutters to but I don't think the metal in them is near that thick. The casting piece is puzzling. DuKn, look up into the driveshaft housing and see if there's damage anywhere.

pieces of something when taking lower unit off

It's only used to slide the seal down the shaft onto the impeller housing. It's intended to set the seal evenly all around rather than doing it with your fingers. Then you remove it and toss in the trash.

pieces of something when taking lower unit off

The large donut shaped piece looks like the seal setting tool that was not supposed to be left in the drive. Not sure about the others.

Sad Day For the SS United States

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

Have you checked out the Mercury Prop Selector online. Might get you close. Turning Point also has one.

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

Yes it will fit an alpha. Actually the Enertia ECO will even fit an alpha with a 16" diameter, hardly no room to spare but will fit. Not recommending it just making an analogy

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

Quicksilver props are Mercury props marketed under a different name so they can be sold at retail outlets rather than dealerships (or something like that, I'm not a marketing exec). They are also sold without the hub kit, thus the lower price than a Mercury. Sounds like you need the hub so...

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

Ageed, stay with a 3 blade for your application. Solas, Turning Point or Michigan would be good choices. Mercury props are great but this application you're not going to notice a difference to justify the added cost. Getting the pitch dialed in is the key. And as stated above it may be wise...

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

That's a 4 1/4 prop meaning exhaust (at least a good amount of it) travels over the outside of the hub causing ventilation. This is at least some, if not all, of your issue.

    Prop Selection - Bayliner 175

Need clarification. When you say it has a wrong prop and that it is a "flow through exhaust hub", 95% of props on the water today are flow through exhaust. Just wondering if you mean over the hub exhaust as in you currently have a 4 1/4" hub diameter prop installed on a drive that asks for a 4...
